I converted my seat to lift off, so I removed the hinges entirely.  I have them and the clips around some place.

I hate to spoil the consensus, but I have both of mine and they are 1982-original.

From Sue: < I have a sneaking suspicion that the seat would be just as or more forward with the circlip in place and it keeps the seat from moving back...doesn't it? >

If both clips are in place, the seat remains in a fixed position, moving neither forward nor backward.

To a degree, the seat latch performs the same function, at least when the seat is down, in the riding position.

Still got both of mine!  And I'm careful not to lose them.  The angled tang at the top makes it easier to get on and off... ::)

Once I did what Lucky Lou must have done wrong and it was very hard to get the seat out of the locking hole to get everything back in place. I like the drilling idea too but that's pretty small!!!
