Timing Chain Replacement
« on: May 06, 2009, 09:39:06 AM »
Worn Airhead timing chain symptoms have been previously described as being a skeletony rattling sound emitting from near the front of the engine. My 1981 R65 with a Simplex (single row) chain was making a screeching sound at part throttle and below. Either way, a fix was mandatory. Skeletony?

Besides the timing chain, there are a number of other related parts that will require replacement. You may already know exactly what you need for the job but for the majority of first time DIYers, like myself, consider a timing chain kit from MotoBinsUK. I was pleasantly surprised by the completeness of the kit...

NOTE: The entire article is posted to the Wiki Timing Chain section Comments. The Wiki site does not want to play nice with my Mac computer. Justin is attempting to assist but my non-computer skills are getting in the way.

I will soon post all the photos on the Gallery page and continue to try and understand what I need to do to get the pics into the Wiki page.

I'm beginning to understand why there is not much happening on the Wiki pages. For me, it has become a time consuming chore. YMMV.

The wiki pages do have a substantial learning curve - at the moment I think most all of us are relying on Justin and Justin to create the pages from provided content.   I'm about 1/2 way through my "clutch repair and spline lube" instructions - so far it is over 3 pages of text and a dozen pics !

By the end of this year I hope to have learned enough wiki-speak to not impose on J&J for their technical help.

Monte, according to all those Macintosh commercials on TV - YOU should have it much better than all of us with PCs !!!!!!
