Performance gain with foam sock airfilters

I removed my airbox and fitted some foam sock type airfilters as a temporary measure, but what a diffrence it has made.

The engine revs freely and seems more responsive. I was really surprised and the big problem now is that the induction noise brings out the hooliganism in me, although I wouldn't like to listen to the noise for hours on end.

The exhausts on the bike are aftermarket and are quite free flowing.

Next step is to get rid of all the pipes etc restricting the airbox and maybe run the breather into a small catch tank sealed with a small filter.

Oh boy! Watch your spark plug color You may have just tuned your scooter on the way lean side of toast. Hot Hot Hot... May require some jetting changes as others have experienced.

Was thinking exactly the same thing - in fact I've already washed the airbox to put it back on tomorrow. Also looks like rain and those filters will be like sponges.

They actually came off my Porsche, but rain got onto them through the vent on the engine lid so I put the std filters back on...... sound familiar?

Just finished putting the airfilter back, but without all the split rubber hoses. I kept the split breather pipe and it goes straight into the airbox airbox until such time I make a new breather hose.

Haven't ridden it yet, but did look at the plugs after a 20km ride and it was lean, not terribly white, but enough to worry me beige!  

My oil leak has also reduced to almost nothing so I suspect it was on the full side of ideal and the BMW self regulating oil level system worked.

Will ride tomorrow and report back.
