Stalling out, breather issue?

My 1979 r65 starts up, blows white smoke, runs for a little while and then stalls out.  It I tilt it to the side, oil flows through the cracks in the top of the engine as seen in the picture. 

Things I have learned so far, the bike has a disk-style breather as opposed to the reed-style. The disk and spring all look fine. I was originally told that it is likely a clogged tiny drain that could be cleaned with something the size of a guitar string, only later to discover that drain hole apparently doesn't exist on this r65 model. 

So, I'm left wondering, what is going on and what I should try next?  I am no expert.

I looked for that drain hole too but you are correct it doesn't exist on type 248 crankcases.

On a 79 model one thing you can do is run the oil no more than half way between min and max on the dipstick. The additional air space in the sump will give the breather an easier time. There's a BMW service bulletin that recommends running like this so it's not a problem at all for the engine. I ran my 79 for 18 years at half way on the dipstick.

The 81 on models have a larger sump and half of the additional capacity was given over to air space so crankcase compression is less of an issue.

My 1982 R65 eat oil until the level is at about the middle of the min/max interval on the dipstick.
Once there the level stays there provided there is no leak or mechanical problem ....
Hope this helps.
P.S. : you can run your engine without the air filter box to see where the leak actually is ....

Ok, so I may have caused the problem by overfilling oil.  Since that, when the oil level was lower, when I start it up I'm still getting the stalling and the oil leaking.  Ideas on what else may be going on?

This bike has the cylinder air filter as opposed to the rectangular one, not sure I can start it up when things are apart, but I can try. Get a better idea of where the oil is coming from.

If you have the 295 pan, replace it. The 995 is what you want.

I still get a little smoke if left on the sidestand for a week. With a small wood (1/2" thick) under the stand, nothing. I fill to the upper mark.

So I drained the oil and it was more than just oil, it was an oil and fuel mixture, much thinner than oil, and a lot of it.
Could this have happened from putting too much oil in? Or float needle issues? Other issue I need to figure out before changing the filter and putting the right amount of oil in it?
