swing arm repalcement technique
« on: January 25, 2026, 05:38:31 AM »
I am sure you old hands know this but just in case.  I had to remove the swing arm on my 1979 R65 and removal is easy.  Getting the bearings and washers back in after  chasing parts around the dirty shop floor and having to clean and relube them several times I found an easier way.  Assemble the bearings and washers in the swing arm and then run a long piece of tape, electrical or masking all the way around the width of the swing arm two times to hold everything in place.  Then position the swing arm in the bike so that the frame containes the washers and bearings, supporting it with a box of some sort.  Remove the tape and screw in the pivots.   Worked slick.  I got tired of washing and repacking bearings again and again.
