BMW Accessory Socket Kit

Hi All,

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions.  It is funny what you find when you are better informed. Zip tied to the frame under my seat is an accessory socket fully wired in. The socket is damaged and the bracket missing (a casualty when the bike was dropped). But a colleague who owned an R65LS had a bracket and socket from his, so they will be fitted soon.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. I will see how it all comes together.

I had trouble with a battery once and to start the engine I took a spare battery, hooked it up to the faulty one and placed it in my lap intending a ride around the block. After 150 yards the battery in my lap shorted! Apart from a slight burn on the tank and some wounded pride nothing much happened.  [smiley=thud.gif]

Back in the day, (mid-60s) several of us were riding home from a hill climb event out in West Texas. Started raining on us like the proverbial cow whizzin' on a flat rock. We were alll on euro scoots as Honda was an unknown name back then.

My buddy was on his big ol' 650cc BSA and I noticed he was way back on the passenger section of the seat. We all be soaking wet...

Lord Lucas did it to him. Some way, the ignition was arcing from the aft portion of the fuel tank direct to his private parts! I laughed so hard my tears were wetter than the rain.

Big fun! We didn't know any better...

Hi All,  I am looking at fitting an external accessory socket to my R65LS to allow easy battery charging, and having the option of an external power socket...... Paul

Here's another option to consider; although it does not meet your specs for an accessory socket, it is an easy battery tender plan.

I bought a simple two-wire trailer harness at Northern Tool. Your FLAP may have 'em too. The battery end is hard wired and the pigtail rides with the scooter. Just plug in the tender when you plan to be off the bike for an extended time.

The two wire trailer plug (also known as SAE plug) works great. Cheap and readily available. If you make the wire 12 to 18 inches long from the battery (fused of course) then it can be used as your heated vest hookup (if you have) plus battery tender hook-up plus camping/  trouble light. All my bikes and all electrical accessories use the same SAE plug. Just remember that the female side of the plug should be the positive or hot side. Otherwise you can short the male side on the frame.

Chris, I think somebody replaced the harness connector for the harness down to the oil pressure/neutral switches on the "Junkyard LS" with one of these.  They are a pretty good plug...
