BMW MOA National 2016
« on: April 21, 2015, 09:32:48 AM »
For those of you in the northeast US, or those of you travel far to a National Rally, the 2016 National is being held at the Erie County Fairgrounds, Hamburg, New York.  That is not too far from the City of Buffalo, and Niagra Falls.

I am planning now on attending, and hope to see some of you at the rally (again).

There is a very good chance that I will be going to that one.   It will also be really close for suecanada.

I started a new job this past fall and I won't have much vacation time this summer to go way out to the national this summer.   :-(

Just an update to see if anyone else is going.  I will be there, but I will be taking the K1300S.

If you are planning on attending and want to say Hi, how about exchanging cell numbers?

I'll be going to Hamburg! Just need to flip a coin between riding the DR650 with it's new lighter Mosko Moto soft cases or LRB!!
Just finished today putting in the Motobins brake actuating arm I had ordered last Fall. I promise a report. But right off the bat it does fit! Second, it takes just 2 proper o-rings (at either end) not the 3 (either end and an extra on the inside side) as the old one did...all o-ring seats referred to are the square profile. So the new Motobins arm has an o-ring at either end plus 4 oil flinging shallow grooves. The one from LRB had 3 square o-rings and 3 flinging shallow grooves. Will the new one improve my leak or actually fix it?? Come to Hamburg, NY to find out!!  ;D

Really looking forward to seeing K_enn and NHMAF again!! Any body else??

I was just thinking, we ought to share cell phone numbers to find each other there.  Agreed?

If you still have my PMs from the Bloomberg national rally, my cell number is there and has not changed.  If you need it again, let me know.

I spent a little time with Kenn at the rally today after missing meetups all yesterday. I was getting worried about not finding Sue, but she appeared in front of me during my shift bartending in the beer garden... I tell ya, that is a tough and tiring job to do at a motorcycle rally with thousands there!

Great to find Nhmaf but missed K_enn! I enjoyed the rally very much especially the Carnival Kids Steel Drum Orchestra! Nhmaf has a picture of them. Full of enthusiasm and gives one faith in our young people!!

Loved the craft beer and I got there early enough..Monday afternoon...to grab a shady spot under a tree. Line of elm trees positioned north and south so most of the day was a shady oasis. Found most friends by just walking around and at the Volunteer table and oil change. Tracfone let me down completely except strangely for the very first call home to Derek. And I was unable to find a real land line phone anywhere onsite to use our Red Cross International calling card. Harder and harder to find real phones.
Next year the rally will be at Salt Lake City...that could be hot and I understand that we will be camped in the middle and be able to fan out to the different rally venues. Would save on walking but hey! i lost 4 lbs. walking around the rally site. Love that! Not very many trees but a barn will be there.....cool barn??? Anyway, a long way away and a long time down the road....too soon to moan yet!!  :)

Oh yes...great news. Do you notice how white LRB's wheels are in Nhmaf's picture of us?? Well, hasn't that new Motobins brake actuating cam arm that goes through the rear drive actually work and has kept the oil from leaking and despoiling his wheel!! A bit of brake dust..that's all! He cleans up easily! Yay!!! ;D
I am touching wood that he remains dribble free for a long time. I did as Nhmaf suggested ages ago...along with the felt washer on the shaft on the rightside I also added another o-ring.
So new o-rings..yes indeed...BUT who'd have thought that a new arm sahft would be the answer to resolve a leak. I must let Motobins know that their brake arm works on a pre-1985 R65 too.

How could the first one wear out? The first one had 3 o-rings to the new one's 2 as well.....go figure :-?  Well worth the money to me to run that experiment!!

Hey you did ride LRB!  I wasn't sure, with your modern stuff now.

I think even SLC is farther than I want to go.  There's some pretty stuff in the area, though.

Hey Ed...that modern stuff is on 2 Suzuki DR's, '08 and '04 vintage, both having carbs and gravity feed fuel but even being that simple I prefer what I know..LRB!! But I plan to head east and will take either the 650 DR or the 200 DR. I want to save LRB for those long western trips.
I worry more about the heat in SLC than trouble getting there.
Any one can comment on the SLC fairgounds for shade??

Where is the national being held, sounds like the Salt Lake City area, hopefully it's in the surrounding mountains in the area, not in SLC proper .

SLC can get quite hot in the summer .

It will be right at the Utah State Fair park in SLC, Bob - smack dab inthe middle of July.  I am thinking my northern blood cannot take that much heat - once things get up around 110F I shut down completely!

Of course, they say there are many hotels with A/C nearby, you can take the commuter rail to/from the rally and downtown, etc, but that kinda defeats the purpose of a motorcycle rally, IMO.  Call me old-fashioned!
