Classic Bike Show NEC this weekend

Anybody from the UK going to the Classic Bike/car show this weekend?

Haven't been for a couple of years, so thought I would see anything interesting.

I will visit the BMW stand of course...

Well I went and what a disappointment!

The classic bike show used to have a hall all to itself (albeit a small one), now it was jammed into a corner along with a small number of trade stands showing clothing that in the main had nothing to do with classic bikes!

£18.50 to get in plus 2 hours driving each way not good value!

BMW owners stand was okay, some nice oldies.

That's an expensive day out .... especially if they did not deliver what was expected... come to the Classic American car show at Tatton next July there are plenty of bikes, cars and trucks, you wont be disappointed its only a £7.50 and I may be able to get you a free passes....

Sorry it was such a disappointment.

But that has been my experience as well.  I have not been to a show for some years.  Quite often there is more interesting stuff in the car park.  The trade stands quite often are full gypsies selling tat or over-priced food, and the clothes are often cheap knock-offs as are the tools.  The last time I actually bought something I was happy with was finding a set of gloves.....10 years ago or more.

Even the classic bike shows at place like Shepton Mallet and the like, are limited in what they can offer - I have not been for a few years.  

As I am not in the market for a new bike - can't/won't pay - not that anyone makes anything that I would stump up for!  It seem a bit of a waste of time.

However I ought to make an effort, soon, just to confirm what I have already think.  

That said - there is a bike show in London, I understand, that takes my fancy - something to do with 'bike sheds'.  Something about bikes that have been built by their owners in their sheds......Sounds right up my alley.

The American classic car section (again much smaller then last time) was the only other thing the kids (I took both of them) liked!

That sounds great if you can, otherwise I will come along and have a look.

I last went two years ago and it was okay, my daughter is in her last year in school and one of her projects is WWII, she is writing about dispatch riders and the like for one of her projects as part of her GCSE (I know, I can't work out why either, but she is mad about old bikes, especially Royal Enfields, she declared that when able she will own and ride one...). The guys on the RE stand were fantastic it has to be said, but once started, we couldn't stop them talking. I suppose it's not every day you get a young girl come up to a bunch of grizzled old guys asking about vintage WWII Brit bikes is it? they had books out in an instant and pictures galore to show her plus a guided tour of the stand and ALL the detail.
