Colors in the Catskills
« on: September 12, 2009, 09:54:56 AM »
There is a motorcycle rally at Hunter Mountain (NY) October 2-4, 2009.  The motorcycle rally is an "all brands" event, but is sponsored by BMW MOA.  Also, that same weekend is an Octoberfest at Hunter Mountain.  Admission to both is free, and camping is available for a nominal fee.

For more info, see:

Weather permitting, I will be there  -- probably with a few other members of BMW Motorcycle Club Northern Jersey.

We are thinking of going as a day trip -
I live in River Edge - Bergen County NJ - where/when  does your club meet?

I will be heading up on Saturday morning, a couple of other guys from the club are heading up Friday, so I as of now I am riding up alone unless I hook up with someone else.  I will be leaving from Hawthorne, Passaic County.

The club, BMW MCNJ, meets on the second Tuesday of the month at the restaurant at the Lincoln Park airport.  Here is a link to the club's website:

There is one other guy in the club with an R65, he is in the process of rebuilding it.

Just got back yesterday.  It was good event, but the turnout may have been a bit small because of the weather (forecasts were not good, but radar on Saturday was not bad I didn't get rained on much on the way up).  Lots of BMW bikes -- I would estimate 85% of the bikes I saw were beemers.

Not many airheads -- only saw three others, a mid to late 1980s R80, a mid 70s R75, an old sidecar rig (I could not identify the model), and my R65.  I did not see any other R65s there.

It was good time -- good beer, good music, and good roads to ride.  I'll go again next year.

OK, press your forehead to the computer, after setting up the post to reply.  Press "insert image" and visualize really, really hard, on some of the best scenes you remember.

There, even if that didn't work the effort should punish you enough!

I was there on my '86 R65... although you wouldn't have found it out front in the lot.  This was a great event. Lots of informative seminars, demo rides on new bikes from MAX BMW, MAX dirt riding school, blues bands all day, and plenty of beer (Spaten Oktoberfest on draft).  For housing I opted to camp for $15 a night.  There were lots of high thread count options available in local B&Bs, condos, etc.

Photos... riding skills demo by local police, main parking lot scene, GS riders at the summit.

I'm surprised I didn't see you, I was camping there too.  I was located by the trial sign / map underneath the chair lift near the refuse bins -- Blue '82.

Good event.  I especially liked the beer, and the bands (Urban Pioneers were real good)

I was camped near the 2 Porta-Johns... just to the right of them as you faced them, right under the chair lift.  One of the photos I posted shows my little tent and the bike next to it with a cover on it.

I'd like to go back to this event next year.

OK, Color in the Catskills this year is October 1-3, 2010.  Barring really bad weather, I will be there again.
