Too far considering all that has to get done around here this summer - if I was to go I'd want to take off 2 weeks' time at minimum so I could sightsee and enjoy the trip and not just slab it across..

It's a long haul for sure.  I'm riding with a group from the local BMW club in DFW, we're leaving next Friday, July 12, and expect to return on July 28 or 29.  I've been around the world and back again but never have been to the left coast.  Really looking forward to this ride.

Have a safe and pleasant trip!   May we assume that Mrs. Phorqs is also going on her BMW?

Keep an eye out - you might have a Monte on a Turnip riding out after you-LOL!

Mike, Mrs. Phorqs can't get the necessary time off.  I retired at the end of March.  At first I wasn't going to go but she pretty much insisted that I make the trip.  My son, Earl Phorqs, lives in Portland, Oregon so I'm hoping to get to spend a few days with him as well.  He needs a little help getting his R65 running again.  I think he probably just has some varnish in the carbs so we may get that sorted out.

If memory serves some of our members like Wirespokes and Daryll Richmond live in the area.  Hope to get a chance to meet them.  I'm pretty sure that Monte "Mongo" Miller won't be making the ride.

Hi Bengt!! Well, I am packing to go to Salem. Whether it actually happens is unknown until Tuesday morning when I plan to leave for Duluth,MN and Aerostich factory first. I'll go around Huron to the Soo and keep to a northern route like Hwy. 200 across the mid-west. If heat too much or I am unhappy by Duluth, I'll simply ride up and around L. Superior and head back home.

I'll PM my Tracfone no. to you, Bengt. Meet at the airheads tent at some point...leave a message there if you are there....then the beer tent!!
Any sound from Melena??

Cheers for now, Sue

Sounds good Sue.  I'll send you a PM with my cell number.  I was thinking about Melena not too long ago.  If I recall she had a close call a few years back on her bike and since then I haven't seen her post too much here.

Surely there are a few others from this forum that will attend.  Anyone?  Anyone?  Buhler?

I haven't decided yet.  I live maybe 35 miles from Salem.  If I decide to camp or spend the night in town I'll probably ride my bicycle; if I just go for the day I'll take the R65.  My friend Tom lives maybe a half mile from the fairgrounds, I wonder if he has a place I could crash.  Err, sleep....

I'll be there with my highly modified 83  Yellow and Black R65 GS. I'll wander around and try and find you guys.  I'm leaving shortly for N. Cal to see my Daughter and then over to Susanville to meet up with others for the Ishi adventure ride that makes its way to the Salem rally.   :)

THAT'S the only R65GS I've ever seen, even if it didn't start life as one.

I'm leaving on Saturday and heading that direction - riding the GS.  Taking a northern route as well.  I should be there Wednesday.  Sue - hope to see you there!  Ride safe.

Arrived in Portland last night and stayed with my son Allen "Earl Phorqs" Crenshaw.  We'll head down to the rally today.  It's nice and cool in Portland this morning.
