A perfect morning for a breakfast ride so the
Mike n' Monte Show rolled out to the Blue Hangar Cafe at Northwest Regional Airport.
Just a long drive and a 3-iron from Texas Motor Speedway, the
Hangar draws a bike and aircraft show any Saturday that the forecast does not include tornadoes. This morning did not disappoint. We both
Hoovered up pancakes the size of hubcaps, couple eggs, toast, sausage, bacon plus a full pot o' coffee, then had to jack up the springs a notch on the rear shocks for the ride home. Caloric loading, we did.
This was Mike's first visit and his R90 Airhead drew a nice crowd. Same thing occurs when one of my R65s attends. Italian beauties, cafe racers, hot rod UJMs... it don't matter 'cause it's the vintage BMWs that folks gravitate towards. Gotta love it.
Whilst chatting motorcycles out on the tarmac, our group heard an unhappy sound. Seems some fool had stopped his pickup truck on the edge of a taxiway. Said taxiway is shared by aircraft and ground traffic who must yield to aircraft. FAA regs say so.
A beautiful Stearman in WWII Navy trim taxied by us and proceeded to strike the stopped truck! Crunched up an expensive lower-right wing tip and did a gouge on the truck. Check the photo: Pilot sits in the aft cockpit of the tail-wheel biplane. Lower wing blocks pilot's
in close vision. It all came together this morning.
Would like to hear the truck driver's call to his insurance claims adjuster.
