The Barber experience....
« on: December 07, 2011, 07:57:13 PM »
My riding buddy Steve from Winston-Salem and I made a long-awaited trip to see the Barber Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, AL a couple of months ago, and I took a lot of photos. Rather than just upload them all into a random slideshow, I tried to put in some sort of narrative for each photo, so I might remember something about the pic itself. Granted, it might be more photos than a lot of people might want to look at (over 180), but if you don't have anything to do and it's too lousy outside to ride, it's a way to kill a little time! (Note: Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, should make a point to see this wonderful museum!)  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

You're spot on, John, regarding the fantastic Barber Motorsports Museum.

Me and ol' Bengt toured the facility during our Barber/AHRMA run in October 2010. Our one-day visit did not provide near enough time to completely absorb the experience, but the races and huge swap meet were calling to us.

The plan is to return.

We walked around the big swap meet and sat at the track as well.  Man, that track is something else!!   ;)   It would have been worth it to just see the track by itself!

I had a rainy day down in B'ham and had the time, so I walked the entire museum at least twice. Taking photos and having a blast.. That was a few years ago, and I can't wait for the expansion to be done..

No commitment from the Phorqs Phamily as yet, but I'm returning for the 2012 edition of the Barber experience. Last trip was a "guys only" but this year my bride says no way she's in, too.

If you watch TV, Hyundai has a commercial of one of their cars ripping around a beautiful road race course. It's the Barber track. Hyundai has a factory near Birmingham. I spotted the tree-shaded hillside where Phorqs and I watched Sir John Surtees hustle the 500cc MV GP racer around the track.

As Terminator Arnold says, "I'll be bach".

You never know, I might be Mr. Every Night Is Friday Night and Everyday A Saturday come October.  Would love to get Mrs. Phorqs over there.  We were about 1 mile away right before Christmas but didn't have the time to visit.

The museum is everything that John & Monte say and more.  An amazing site.
