Autumn Beemer Bash in Quincy, CA

I have been more off than on the forum the last few weeks.  I've been busy getting some things made up to try to sell at the next rally and this weekend is the Bash!  We're leaving tomorrow and visiting a friend in Oroville on the way up.  Friday will be a nice ride up the Feather River and an early arrival.

Of course, today got really busy and I'm going to get a late start tomorrow.  First, my 89 year old Mom wasn't feeling well and I needed to go over and see what I could do for her before I left.  So, a few hours to see her and do her shopping put me back a bit.

Then I ended up going to REI to pick up another good sleeping mat as one got lost.  So, I'm not packed yet.   ::)  Tomorrow is another day.  Luckily we don't have to go all the way to Quincy tomorrow.

I also have a bunch of these really cool "Helmet Liner Hats" that I've crocheted that I'm taking with me.  I had made Larry one and one for myself before Redmond.  People liked them and said I should sell them.  So, I'm going for it.  Maybe I can make enough to pay for my trip.  I'll put them up here later so people can see what I'm making.   8-)

I'll also have the flag with me.  I think someone with an R65 will be there!  I hope!

I'll take pictures and tell you all my story when I get back!

Yep, someone with an R65 was there.  I hope one of those photos turned out ok, and I got to sign the flag!

I met my friend Don, who rode up from New Mexico and has been enjoying riding in the Sierra for most of a week, at the junction of I-80 and I-680, which put us just outside of the traffic of the bay area.  Then we took a very nice meander through Napa and Sonoma, along the western shores of Lake Berryessa.  We had an excellent tri tip lunch at Louis Cairo's restaurant in Williams.  I wanted to go up the Quincy-LaPorte Rd. to get to the rally, but I missed the turn and we ended up taking CA-162/Oro-Quincy Rd./Buck's Lake Rd. instead, which was not a hardship at all.

Don and I were standing near our tent when this woman walked up to my bike and started squinting at it real hard.  :)

There was talk about how it might rain today, and Don and I were both awake at 5am when the pitter-pat of rain drops on the tents started.  I jumped up, got dressed, and started throwing things together.  I got out of the tent to make a run to the bathrooms and... the sky was clear as a bell.  ???  Well, my blood was going and so I continued to break camp.

Have you ever been to a rally where there wasn't that Airhead who fires up his bike at oh-dark-thirty?  It's cold, and the bike cranks and cranks and just when you think it's going to run the battery dry, it finally lights.  Well, except for the cranking part, that was me this morning. :)  Actually, it fired right up!

So, I rode down the Quincy-LaPorte Rd. in the dark and had breakfast in Yuba City, a hundred miles down the road.  It did dribble on me occasionally, and some of the roads were wet, but I never got really rained on.

I hope Melena had a nice ride home!

BTW, you should all come out to Don's BBQ in Deming, NM over Veterans Day weekend.  http://www.deminggathering.com.  There will be probably 150 people there for BBQ top sirloin.  Don and will start cooking it Friday night and it will be in his smoker for 15 hours or so.

Hi all!  I'm back from the rally!  We took our time coming back and enjoyed the sights.  Got just a little bit of very light rain riding down the Feather River but kept an easy pace on the "first-rain-of-the-year-oily-roads".  But that first rain also brought all the wonderful fresh smells of wet woods and fields that come with it.    I've got some pictures that I'll get downloaded tomorrow along with a full write-up about the trip.

And Darryl, you should be careful sneaking up on people looking at your bike so hard.   ;D   It was good to see you there.

Today I repaired my R65 from its arduous journey into the Sierra and back.  Yes, it's true, I experienced an electrical breakdown.

So, now that I've replaced the brake light bulb, it's ready to go again!
