My 3rd Practice Session
« on: May 26, 2010, 11:25:56 AM »
After my 3rd Practice with my dad as a tutor in familiarizing myself with the R65 at the University of the Philippines Large construction yard, being tired of doing firgure 8's and practicing u-turns, I suggested having a short ride around town just to unwind and cool down before returning home.

After riding and arriving at another part of Metro Manila, we decided to call it a day and go back home.

In a large stretch of Road where there aren't many cars and traffic a Large Black Bike zoomed by Me and My dad. That Black bike, which has the word K1200RT and a BMW Badge on it stopped at the next stop light and waited for us there. I went next to the K1200RT; It's rider flipping up his modular helmet and said "That's really an R65?! It's the first time I ever saw one of those."

We exchanged and told each other quick stories until the stop light turned green.

My dad said I got more attention riding that 29 year old bike than his R1150 GS Adv, which the rider on the K1200RT simply waved a hand at.

That was a humbling experience.  :)

Feels good, don't it Julio? The K bike may be higher up on the gene pool but that 650 stands much firmer and better rooted in the family tree and true BMW heirarchy.  Keep that classic 650 running and sit proud while you improve your skills. It still does EVERYTHING well and is a true marriage of function and style in the classic BMW fashion.

That's great Julio!  What fun.  I know my R65 gets lots of looks even by the Harley crowd around here.   8-)

It's great your dad is giving you some good training.  That slow speed stuff is important.  But it's nice you got to get a nice ride after that.

Have fun!

The K-biker's eyeballing and comments will not be your one and only episode, Julio, of other riders noticing your classic Airhead. The cachet of vintage BMWs will amaze and please you. Ride on, bro'.
