Headlight replacement

My headlight lens was broken in my crash, and I stumbled across this item, and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it.
At $59.95, it looks cheaper than a lens, but I am not sure, is this a sealed-beam unit?  Do they make H-4 in sealed-beam?

You are right.  I left a message, and they called me right back.
That price includes the lens and reflector (~$300 for BMW parts), but I learned it may have a plastic lens.  I don't know if there would be a noticeable difference in light quality between plastic/glass...

I may not need to replace my reflector, though.  However, the posts that hold the little shield (that reflects the light backward) took a beating.  Could be straightened.

Is that just the lens or is it a lens/reflector assembly?  I would like to replace my reflector because it does not have a socket for the small running light bulb, making me have to have the H4 bulb on all the time.  This works fine for visibility, but I worry about the drain on my battery for the typical short trips that I take.  I'd really like to find a reasonably priced reflector that would allow me to use the small on-all-the-time bulb instead of having to switch on the headlamp.  The cost of OEM reflector puts it out of the running.

That is the lens and reflector (I believe) as a unit.

I would put $20 on it NOT having a hole for the parking light, in a heartbeat!

I had never considered that aspect.

The one I put on my old Triumph has the hole for the parking light, though I don't know if it's the same size as a BMW one.  But that was 20 years ago, I don't remember the brand/price/anything.  It works well.  I wonder if Rocky Point has anything like that....

Edit, I just re-read the description.  NO provision for pilot light.

Ed, it says in the description that there is no provision for the "pilot light".  I wonder if that is the same as running-light?  If you look at the picture of the "fluglewhatever" light it appears to show a hole in the reflector if somebody absolutely has to have it.  Maybe that's why it costs so much more...

I can't remember where I read this, so take it with a shaker of salt.  But I believe that the pilot lights (around 5 - 10 watt incandescent bulbs) were to be left on whilst riding in town at night.  Apparently they have street lights in England, and you can see without your headlights on.  The pilot light is so you can be seen.  I managed to find a 20 watt halogen bulb that fit in my pilot light socket, so I could get away with using that in the day time in my daylight-headlights-on state; it doesn't focus enough for me to see by at night, but does help me be visible.  

As it turns out, I live in the country and ride in town so rarely that it really doesn't make any difference.

Order up a Phillips 1024 10w halogen lamp from your local parts place. If you want the 20w I believe the part # is 47835 at NAPA.

Rich is probably correct.  I took my stock incandescent pilot bulb into Napa, showed it to them, and asked them what halogen bulbs would fit.  They ordered a box of 6 for me.  I think I have one left.  That was a long time ago.  I better get another box.
