A Poem on Late (in life) Spring
« on: March 27, 2010, 05:30:12 PM »
Here's a poem fer ya.  I wrote it just a week after the ride in the video I linked to in my last post.

The weather has been crappy ever since.  Just goes to prove the wisdom of "Ride while ye may".

The bicycle is a good substitute when it's too cold to motor.  I don't own electric gear - the little alternator on the LS couldn't hack it.  With the bicycle, I'm making heat, so 30 is pretty easy.

Enjoy the ride.

Just still crazy, or crazier still?
I’m looking for that edgy thrill.
But old eyes dim, reactions slow.
How much longer can I go?

Another day, another ride,
The road calls out my demon side.
The engine sings, the shifter snicks,
I lean way over just for kicks.

Helmet, jacket, boots and gloves,
Acceleration’s what I love.
Coming home the last few miles
My face shield hides a foolish smile.

No drunken fool, no texting teen
Has menaced me or my machine.
No slippery patch, no whitetail buck
Parted me from Lady Luck.

And I will live to ride again,
Trying to outrun the wind.

Hope it's a good few more years yet Steve and I hope I'm still riding at your age. That would give me another 9 years to look forward to.
