ride in heavy rain
« on: February 07, 2010, 11:08:10 AM »
 Yesterday i had to ride in a rain(i was stupid enough to leave my car at the other side of the town)I was planing to take a R11S for the ride(a bit more protection)Unfortunately the choke cable stuck,so i was forced to take the old lady.I was a bit scared to ride her in the rain,because of all of the talking here about"Start up after rain" and .......
 I can say only one word "WOW".The bike was flawless.Performed like a champ.It sat all day outside.It was parked under some kind of roof but still outside so the rain was pouring over the tail section.After 10 hours in this condition my baby started up in a heartbeat brought me home.
  I was so happy(still i am) to own such a great bike :)

My R65 is sitting out in the rain right now.  It will start up fine after work.

Leaving the bike out in rain, is a good test of your ignition leads and coil  general condition .

IF it is very heavy rain, you may want to check your valve covers for water - I once had a valve cover gasket that didn't seal perfectly well at the top, and if left out uncovered in heavy rain would result in some water sitting in the bottom of the valve covers afterward - you don't want that  in your engine oil if you can help it.

I'm not so sure; it seems like you guys get your whole year's worth of rain in one day.

I've had water get inside my swingarm covers and pool up after the bike sits in a big rain storm.

Oh the weather outside is Frightful,
But the Beer inside's delightful.
There is no other place to go,
Let it snow let snow let it snow!

 [smiley=beer.gif]  With apologies to whomever...

When you get done riding in heavy rain you can now experience another of the R65's idiosyncrasies:  Boiling heads.  When the Valve Cover gasket does seal properly it traps some water and when you get done you can listen to it boil.

Another R65 moment of Zen.   [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif]

That's just Lou's reminder that it's time for a cuppa.
