My first R65 rides
« on: November 12, 2009, 11:59:59 AM »
Since I bought it, I have been doing lots of work to get her back on the road (well, I went to buy it 200 miles away and she took me home).

The weather was not that good, but this late weekend I took a ride on the northern portuguese mountains and took some photos.
Hope you like it :)

I like to shoot old film cameras :)

The road looks great - but your exposure time was so long that it failed to record the bike as it sped by!!   ;-)

Really though - how about a photo of the R65?

Beautiful photography, Adamastor!

I have a hard time getting good quality scans from my negatives from the corner drug store that still processes film (getting rare!).

I had my own B&W darkroom in high school, and even developed a few rolls of color slides, just for fun.  That was a long time ago....

Rob, this is a bit off topic, but your R65 looks really cool, do you have a photo where i can see it from the front? The weather is getting cold and I was wondering how those leg shields look on the R65... Do they offer a lot of wind protection?
I use my R65 for commuting so it could be an interesting upgrade :) (the ural leg shields work ok on the r65?)

About photography, film is now a "niche" so it will be harder to find where to develop, I do my own black and white work at home, and just develop the colour negatives or positives on the photo lab. Then I scan them at home with a negative scanner (Epson 4490). It's very affordable this way, and I get to use lots of old film cameras I love :)

Regards

Sergio

Sergio,

Here are two galleries of pictures, but none from straight on the front...
http://www.pbase.com/tomfarr/leg_shields

http://www.pbase.com/tomfarr/complete

They offer some protection in cool weather.  The tops of your thighs still get wind.  I cannot say they add A LOT of protection.

If the Ural leg shields are of similar design, I don't see why they would not work.
These Heinrich shields are easy to find on German eBay.  Pretty cheap, too.

Found one:

Click on the picture for a VERY LARGE version.

This was a very brief period of mounting a Tracy 1/4 fairing on it.  I didn't like the wind noise and quickly removed it.

Oh, and no chance of any current pictures right now.  The bike is in pieces. :(

Thanks Rob, hmmm I think they are too large for me. I have a very small garage at my own house (i do my wrenching at my parent's house) and every inch is needed to have enough space for the R65 and the car...

Anyway, congrats on your good looking R65 :)

Hi Adamstor

If you have the time and the inclination you might mount an RS-fairing. They are relatively cheap on the German Ebay appr. €200 and will give you a very good protection from wind and rain. The only drawback is the enlarged turning radius due to fork being stopped by the fairing, but that is only a problem when moving the bike in confined spaces.
