Took the '81 R65 for a cruise today .
Was scouting out a back road route for one of my road trips with the car in the next week .
Didn't start out to be a long ride, but turned into an all day (8.5 hour) 415 mile ride, into the higher elevations north of the Phoenix metro area .
Glad I wore the leather jacket, as it got a bit cool, for this low desert dweller, on a mountain pass of 6000 feet above sea level .
Bike ran great, and got 48 mpg (8.6US gallons of fuel) .
Only problem I had, was when I was getting the bike off of the center stand for a fuel stop, a pivot bolt on the center stand broke, safety wired the center stand up, and continued on .
To the best of my knowledge, this is the longest one day ride I've had with this bike, in the almost 30 years I've had it !!!!!!!!!
