Kris Esp and the Summer trip to Alaska.
« on: September 03, 2009, 09:20:54 AM »
D@amnt.  The laqtop just sent my post into a black hole so now I'M  >:( AND i HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN!!!

I hate when this happens.

I ran into Kris Esp yesterday at work which is the first time I have seen him since he left on his trip to Alaska in June.  He had a really ambitious route planned north of the AL-CAN highway.  At one point I considered following him on my proposed attempt to get to Deadhorse AK to do an IBA Ultimate Coast-to-Coast to Key West FL (A 15,000 mile adventure -- minimum).

So I asked him how it went and he showed me the scars on his forarms.  Somewhere in the Yukon he sheared the front axle of his BMW 1200 GS at 60 mph on a gravel road in washboards entering a courner.  This resulted in a "endo" and a broken kneecap and numerous abraisions.

While he and his son (also on a GS) were pulling the crashed bike back onto the road, a large truck came round the corner and crushed his son's GS.

Trip over.

I'm just glad he is still alive.

Be careful out there and especially so in the wilderness.  Makes me want to have my smaller R65 axle magnafluxed or replaced with something stronger.  As I get more details I will post here.
