Carb Leak Help

Can anyone recomend what to use as a temporary gasket material for my carb bowl while I wait for the replacements to get here by mail? I have 3 days off & a leaking carb - took the bowl off to clean it & the gasket fell out in pieces.. now have to order tomorrow & wait until next week.

I found some cork in a hardware store, in a package with two like-sized sheets of rubber.  In the plumbing section at Ace, IIRC.
What that was was too heavy for your use.

Check in the office dept at any store for it rolled up.  I think that is thinner.

Most of your "real" auto parts stores will have gasket material.  Not sure about the new "chain" stores...

Yea, what they said. Mind the thickness, don't forget to pick up some razor blades and a small metal tube of appropriate diameter, sharpened at the end with a file, makes a fine hole punch!

Thanks Rich, the tubing idea is a good one.. found some thin fuel resistant rubber gasket material at " auto value", began cutting one out..my wife, who is japanese & as detail oriented as they get, pushed me aside & took over, made a perfect replica.. but now the bowl is leaking from the overflow hole, so I adjusted the float tab & it doesn't leak..but after a small ride the one side becomes starved for gas...so i'll take it on tomorrow when I have some light. Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome..

Bill, sounds like the needle is not shutting off properly, might need to remove fuel line and blow some carb-cleaner back through the fuel inlet and see what kind of crap comes out...

Funny how things can snowball.. turns out that the newly installed floats (6 months ago) are slightly different - the housing that the pins go through are a little wider & will hang up easily. I must have prompted that when taking off the bowl.. anyway, alittle file work & it's good again. Now, what about the little red specs in my fuel filter?

Is your tank liner red?  Mine is.  I would guess little bits are flaking off.  So long as you HAVE a fuel filter, it's probably no big deal for now.  A big flake could plug up the petcock, though.
