A friend of mine is leaving next week to go run a marathon somewhere in the White Mountains.  She's from NH so she knows the area.  After seeing your pictures I'm thinking that may be a place worth leaving Oregon for.

Beautiful pictures Mike!  I agree with Ed, but I don't think either of us want the winters you have there.   :o  Impassable roads over the winter makes me think it's way too cold and snowy.  It sure would be a beautiful place to visit though.

Thank you for sharing your photos and giving such great descriptions.  They really give me a greater appreciation of what that part of the country is about.

That is probably the Bristol, NH marathon - it isn't far from Lake Winnipesaukee either.   It is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, too - is she planning to run the Boston Marathon in the spring?

I think Oregon has some very scenic areas too - the northern part of New Hampshire has the wild and natural look about it, but the southern part next to Massachusetts, is , well, looking more and more like alot of Massachusetts - paved over, crowded, too many cars and people, you get the drill.   We live sort of in the "intermediate middle area of the state"!

I didn't mean to move to NH, just to go see it!  It seems like when I see travel program about some place like New Zealand I think "Wow, I should go there some time, it's beautuful.  Reminds me of here!"

She's run Boston before, I don't know if she's interested in doing it again.  I know I'm not.  I don't like big crowds.  I like the local trail runs, whether the 15K I do every year in McDonald Forest or the 50Ks I've done a couple of times.  The Crater Lake marathon was cool though.  Hard, too.

Nice pics.

Hope that Color in the Catskills comes close to what you did.

Ed - maybe this would be of interest to you - I did it about 7 years ago on my mtn bike, but only made it 35 miles before chain and derailleur problems basically turned me into a runner with a bike to push.   IT is a beautiful - and very challenging - race!

Looks like a nice time, Mike.

Hope you post a picture of your clock on the LS!!!  Is it a VDO?

That looks like a great race but $125 for the 50K run is a bit much.  My 50Ks that I ran cost less than a dollar per kilometer.

I've never raced a bike.  I commute pretty often though.  A lot more often than I run.

Ed - the Vermont 50 is a 50 MILE race (>80km), so you get closer, but still over, $1 per km.    The price has gone up alot recently, partly why I don't bother with it anymore.   They do have a big cookout&party afterwards, and T-shirts and some other swag that is included in your registration fee.   But I agree, it is a high price.
