My '81 only has the single disc brake. I wonder if there are any '81 owners out there that do have the twin discs?
Mine is an early 1981 (Oct. 1980), and it has dual disks. (When I shopped for an R65, one of my reasons for passing on a '79 that would have been seriously fewer dollars to buy was that it had a single disk.)
FWIW to Monte, Bengt, and everyone else contributing to this string, the question bothered me, too. I recall reading in various supposedly authoritative sources that duals became standard on the '81s, but I kept seeing singles on bikes whose owners stated as bearing 1981 VINs. Then I went on the realOEM site, punched in the bike's data, and saw a fiche with a part # and graphic for a dual-disk conversion kit. So, who knows?
