If I'm not mistaken, that's your BMW's right-hand switch assembly, brake lever perch and throttle twist grip. ::)

If you're inquiring about what appears to be a plastic/nylon plug pushed into the perch body, that's where your missing Throttle Locking Bolt and Spring should reside. Very handy for balancing carbs and as a simple cruise control.

BMW Part # 32 72 1230874

Maybe be a bit more specific with your questions. Like, "WTF is that round plastic PoS?" That'll help us out.

Thanks Monte,

I should have thought the question through a little better...

Thanks for the answer & part number.

UK bikes or at least mine didn't come with the throttle locking screw as standard equipment. I have the exact same nylon plug.

And you can spot where the PO had drilled out the mirror's threads and used a washer/bolt on the bottom side.

Pitiful what some peeps do on the cheap. :(

The locking screw is really helpful for holding a steady engine rpm while completing the throttle cable balance during a full carb synch... using your DIY manometer, of course.

Barry, might this be a particular legal or safety issue in some countries?

Montmil and Barry,
So to be clear, I could take out the plastic insert in my 1985 R65 and screw in a throttle stop without any other modification needed?
BMW Part # 32 72 1230874

If true that would be awesome. I had one on my previous airhead, a 75/6 and it was so useful for warmup and and tuning.

Correct. Note that the required spring is also included under this BMW part number.
