A nice modification

I did this modification a while back and thought someone might like it. The footpegs on all old airheads are staggered and it started to bother me. After doing this mod I feel more symmetrical while riding, if that makes sense. All that is involved is cutting a section out of the left footpeg mount to match the right side then welding back together, then you must lengthen the shift rod an equal amount. See pictures.

Very nice!  Year ago I thought about doing something like this, but being lazy kept putting it off until it didn't bother me anymore!

I have been thinking of getting some but have not been really happy with the way the adapters look.
How do you like them in the colder temps (40 deg F)

The Mikuni's make the bike more responsive to throttle over the Bing CV's. I do remember I had to do a little modifying to the rubber adapters, I think I had to shorten them. I see you are a mechanic so you should have no problem. My bike is an '86 mono shock. Starting and riding in 40 deg. and lower is no problem.

As Mrclubike said, they don't look bad at all DonC.  A friend put Mikuni's on his R80 and is pleased with them too, although he said he can't give the twist grip a full what-for 'cause it stalls the engine.  I haven't had a ride on it yet but he thinks giving a big squirt on the throttle may dump too much fuel into the chamber without extra air to combust it.

I kept the original size venturis, 32mm, when I went to the Mikunis. I can quickly roll the throttle wide open and it will take it, no stalling. Did your friend go with bigger carbs?

I'm not sure what size he went for DonC, but I do know they were flat slides, which I don't think yours are? Sorry my knowledge of carbs is pretty limited.  I'll ask him next time I see him.
