The epic continues!!
Now then...it appears that my non-starting issue could be due to the fact that the fuel is not reaching the cylinders. Squirts of carb cleaner during cranking allow some coughing and smoke from the pipes, so that tells me combustion is occuring...spark and compression therefore. The plugs, however, look dry after cranking. There is fuel in the float bowls, and I have had both carbs off for a clean and installed new diaphragms. Why would fuel still not be reaching the cylinders? I have checked the en-richeners on both sides for clear passages and correct installation. I must be overlooking something real simple.....??  [smiley=uhoh2.gif]

Just a SWAG here, but in one corner of the float bowl you will see a well that a brass tube fits in.  At the bottom of that well is a very small hole where the gas enters.  This hole can become easily clogged.  Take a dental pick or piece of wire and probe that to make sure it's clear.  It's not like a jet so you can't really harm it with the probe.  I had the same situation and that solved my issue.

Strange that neither cylinder is firing at all.  Make sure that you have the idle jet screw seated and then back off one turn for starters.  After you get ignition then go in an make the adjustments.  Let us know how it turns out.

Here's what old Bengt is talking about. Had this issue on the left side of my '81. Cylinder would not fire until the right side warmed the engine and the carbs would pull fuel. A bit of fine dirt and fuel junk clogged it up. Cheap fix.

Here's my response from Bing; pretty much the same advice from y'all. Oh well, I'll whip em off and do it again!

I would start by checking the Start Jet, it is located in the float bowl.  There are two small circles in the corners of the bowl, one is plugged and the other is a well that accepts the brass pickup tube.  Some of the start jets are removable, they have a small screwdriver slot in them, others are fixed.  In any regard running a COPPER wire through this orifice will clean it and all fuel pickup.
 
If that is not the problem then make sure the Idle Jet,  Main Jet and the respective orifices into the body are clear and clean also, the same procedure works for both.
 
If all of the above checks out fine, there is a possibility that the choke disc are installed improperly.

I had one item, that gave me problems, was the idle jet, it is inside the bowl area right adjacent to the idle mixture screw, that's outside the float bowl .

It has a slot for regular screwdriver to remove it .

The brass tube has two holes drilled in it, at 90 degree angles .

If you spray an aerosol carb cleaner from the screwdriver slot area, it looks like the part is clear of obstructions, but at the very end of it, the orifice can be clogged, and you may well not notice it .

This one gave me fits a few years back, when I did a complete 'overhaul' of both carbs .
