Valve Stem Location-‘83 R65 Snow Flake Front Wheel

The Valve Stem location is a perfect example of BMW not admitting failure. 

I’ve owned BMW’s continuously since 1972. Rode Twins for 20 yrs and Triples for 30+ plus yrs. Always wanted a Twin again before I had to quit riding. Bought a R65 for low seat height and a little less weight I’m ‘Tickled Pink’ about a twin again.

So……..

Has anybody drilled another Valve Stem hole in a/the proper location ?   🤔

Hello,
I bet drilling another hole is not as wise as it seems resistance wise of the wheel. Maybe the placement of the hole near the reinforced rim is not that dumb...
I have a nice angled adapter in my tray box in order to inflate the wheels without cursing too much.

In 18 years this s first time I've ever heard that suggested on any airhead forum. The only thing that has been done is to enlarge the hole to accept a tubeless valve.

I have no problem with the valve location when using a foot pump at home.  I carry a 90 deg adapter in case of needing to inflate away from home but it's never been needed. What I definitely would not do is leave the 90 deg adapter permanently attached as it would stress the valve stem and unbalance the wheel.

In the United Kingdom, the most prevalent pump adapters on service stations is strait and had to be pressed on to apply the air.
Elsewhere, they use a Shrader type with a clip and this one is more difficult to affix on the stem. Hence the 90° adapter.
