What a great ride today!

Got up early, had coffee, grabbed my camera & tank bag, counted the tires & checked pressures, and I was gone by 8:00. I went Northwest 1st, up into Yadkin County and in the general Tennessee/VA/NC border direction, then back down US 421 toward Boone. Rode for a few miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway, up near North Wilkesboro & Ferguson, and saw the roads to the campground Rob found, http://www.highcountrymotorcyclecamp.com/ , where the upcoming Gathering of the (Airhead) Clans will be held.

Scooted back thru the outskirts of town and headed on down South this time, across the farmlands via Hwy 109 into Davidson County, Lexington, and on to High Rock And Badin Lakes. Lots of speedboats/jet skis/pontoon boats, people in general on the water today; 'course, it was a holiday, and a sunny 90 degree one at that!

Wandered around for a while, going nowhere in particular, then headed back via some long, lightly traveled sweepers best taken at 55-60. Stopped to look at a house I'd heard about: this may just be the one.





The place in on 2.5 acres, adjoining a larger farm with horses, and only 8 miles out of town, and actually maybe 3 miles closer toward work. It's also less than 1000 feet inside the next county, with much lower taxes: kinda hard to beat! Guess I need to call my agent & take a good look inside, because I might have to do something about this.

Meandered back into town, stopped to look at the very white people (as if I'm not!) on opening day at a large public pool, then back North to check on the parents: they're not getting any younger. No one home. Hmmmmmm. Enjoyed some of their recently repaved roads, then headed back home, only to find they'd been here & left a note, looking for me. Can't seem to get them to grasp the concept of cell phones; I won't even get started on the internet!

So, basically, about 200 miles today, going nowhere in particular but having a helluva good time getting there. My favorite kind of ride, on the rare occasions that time permits.
Now though, better get ready for tomorrow, and the inevitable return to The Real World!

Sounds like a great day!  I love the house you found.  Looks like the ticket I would go for!  

Wish I were closer to the mountians to be able to do a nice day ride like you.    That's why we have to have our Willville fix at least once a month!

That sounds like a wonderful ride, Steve.  I think nicer rides can be had right around home, wherever you live, because you know the roads and how to get out to the good ones.  I'm going to have to get out on a just going nowhere ride this weekend.  

I like that house too.  Beautiful country around it.

You dog, Steve!!  What a place!!!  It looks perfect!  What's the catch?  Was a family of four chopped up and hidden in the freezer for a month?  

Sounds like you got in a primo ride, too.  I attended a "Gathering of the Clans" at that campsite you mentioned back in 1997. Had a fun time, despite coming down with a bad ear infection while I was there that really made it difficult to wear my helmet!  As a result, I didn't really get to explore the roads in the area much, but still had fun at the tech sessions and just BS-ing with the other Airheads who were in attendance.  My R65 was the only one there of its kind, too!
