Hello fellow forum members.  I purchased a 1983 R 65LS a couple of months ago that had been sitting for 15 years.  The bike was orange and the paint was in poor condition so I repainted in the original polaris silver and here is the result.  Hope you like it.

Great job, she's a looker!

Did you also paint the engine block? If so, what type of paint did you use?
Best regards,
Einar

I did not paint the engine block but cleaned it with an aluminum cleaner.

Beautiful job!

I'm also a new member and I'm picking up my 82 R65LS on Saturday..its a bit rough and needs a few things and some TLC.

Where did you get the decal on the fairing?

Nice paint work on your LS. OEM LS R65s had the lower portion of the fuel tank painted black to carry through the factory paint design. Your LS looks far better as she sits.

Google 'em up. There are several vendors that produce almost every sticker you'd want. Sorry, but I just don't have a biz name for you.

Nice bike.

My ongoing question is why did the R65s in every other jurisdiction bar Australia get a kick starter?

Mind you, in 38 years of ownership of the R100 I can count the number of times I've kicked that into life on the fingers of one hand, and 3 of them were showing off.

Don't spend a lot of time looking for them here in the States............... :'(

There has been times when I had enough battery to fire the beast off, but not enough to turn it over........ that's when I miss the ol' Kicker.

Welcome to the funny farm! Smashing job on your LS, and I really like the block colour tank, might have to try that on mine next time it needs a painting.

Mine was that clean 18 months ago when I rolled it out of the shed after a two years of fettling, but since then I've ridden the hell out her all year round, and intend to carry on doing same until she starts to complain :)
