Like the au natural look of the engine. I think it's now a more visually appealing engine without the 'black blocks' breaking up the shape. Sorta old school vintage BMW.

My arty comment. Now back to Swamp People [smiley=lurker.gif]

Right On Monte! It reminds me of my R60/5. I want to de-emphasize the "nose Cone" and re-balance the visual impression emphasizing the mechanical nature of the little red tractor...Blah, Blah, Blah, Oh I was an Art History major back in the day. [smiley=mad.gif] D2

Yep dave - I have thought of pinstripping the tank once its been done - I have to do everything myself so I'll have to buy the pinstriping tape and practice on something small and rounded I guess- The tank does look very ordinary in just black as it is now. I wondered about blood red to contrast the whole black and chrome look. I shall see - the more I work on it the more precise I find myself becoming - I guess I'm just too anal and pedantic but I am trying to do the best I can. Oh well hopefully only another year or so and it'll all be finished - looking forward to seeing yours done and dusted mate ....

Hello, It has been awhile since I have posted. I had cut back on the time spent on my R65LS so I had more time to do summer household things like the garden and various other projects. I once again installed the swing arm with new bearings...I also have the steering head together with new bearings.  The rear drive unit and front forks are next in line. I hope you all are well. D2

Is that a black anodized upper triple clamp I see? Way spiffy. So many nice details. Are you using stainless fasteners, too? Hard to tell in the photos.

Gonna be an eye-poppin' ride, D2.  [smiley=thumbup.gif] Stay busy.

Thanks Monte, That is the original upper triple clamp, all I did was clean it up. I like it too[smiley=bmw_smiley.gif]. I have not used stainless steel for any fasteners. I cleaned and buffed all original fasteners, and replaced any that were too far gone with BMW stock. Despite the paint, powder coat, and mufflers, I want to keep the rest of the bike as original as possible. Best Wishes, D2

Hi dave - looking very good at this stage - I like the idea of the top triple clamp being Black - I might just nick this idea and respay mine when the warmer weather returns - Sadly I'm not up to much at the moment what with saving and being ill in the colder weather - still I ahve the funds now for the respray of the frame and tank and i have all the parts I need to rebuild back tot  arolling chassis. Wheels need blasting and the bearings inserting but I'm not too far away from starting over again - once this is all done then its the turn of the engine - have a recommended BMW airhead mechanic not too far from here who I will have go thru the short block with a fine tooth comb to see about mains/seals/oil pump and all thats stuff.
Good luck finishing it off mate - Adrian ..........................   ;)

Adrian, Earlier in this thread you can see a photo of the powder coated wheels. They were in pretty rough shape with heavy oxidation before they were blasted and powder coated.
Here is the story on my rattle can  paint experience. I decided to use Rustoleum paint after reading a bunch of reviews. I used their primer which is formulated to adhere to plastic and this went on like velvet, a beautiful finish. 8-) However their Satin Black came out with a rough speckled finish. Two cans from the same batch gave the same result. A call to customer support did nothing to solve this problem other than to provide a refund for the paint. After sanding down the Rustoleum black I tried Krylon's Satin Black, which I am very happy to say came out perfectly [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif]. So Rustoleum primer and Krylon's Black Satin finish is the way I'm going for the rest of the plastic and handle bar controls. Stay well, D2

Hello, I have gotten behind on posting pictures of my LS (Greta) so time to catch up. These were taken in the fall, showing the painting of some of the parts I had been working on. I still have the tail light "housing" and turn signal "housings"  to do as well as as finishing up the handlebar controls. My next posting will show how Greta is coming together [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif] D2

These photos show my progress to date. I'm waiting for a few items from the dealer which will allow me to finish with the front suspension and wheel. So by next weekend I should have the engine back in the frame. Sometimes it is hard for me to believe that I have actually made it this far in her restoration. I can actually believe that I will have her back on the road this Spring [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif] Best Wishes to all of you. D2

Beautiful work, Dave. Simply beautiful.

Be sure to secure those side covers prior to your first ride. Red zip ties would be almost invisible.

Thanks again Monte, I'm very happy with how it is coming along. After a year of taking everything apart and getting it all spiffed up it is really fun to be putting it all back. [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif] D2
