Moto Guzzi V35III

I saw a Moto Guzzi V35 III the other day.....was a really cool looking cycle. Would not mind getting my hands on one........any body selling one.....or does anybody have experience with one?

The maintenance manual that I have for my 650 Guzzi, covers this model as well, it looks to be similar to an R65, easy to work on, quite reliable (from an Italian viewpoint !!) but parts may an issue, as not many were brought to the US/North American market .

Guzzi had another 'small' displacement bike, the V50 Monza II (500cc v-twin), saw one in Cycle Trader a month or so back, a '79 model year bike, looked sharp, a dealer in Tennessee had it for about $1700, listing no longer available .

I've had my out for a small block Guzzi for some time now.  Bob is right that parts may be a bit of a problem.  But the biggest problem may be getting body parts.  Over the years M-G has made a veritable plethora of models.  Frames and engines seem to be consistent but the plastic and sheet metal keeps changing.

I think I'm probably going to end up with the new V7 if I do add to the stable.

Just this summer we had a V65 Lario and also a V50 Monza for sale within 50 miles of our place, but I didn't go check 'em out even though the price was reasonable-seeming.

Another little Italian bike that I've always wanted to take a spin on was the Moto Morini 3 1/2 .   It was a V-twin, but longitudinally aligned in the frame like a Harley's engine.  Had some interesting technology in it for its time.

I just checked craigslist around my area, and there are ANOTHER set of V65 Lario, V50 Monza, and even a '69 V7 Sport for sale all within a couple hundred miles of me.

Yep.........I was wondering about parts. I once laid a BMW R27 down and needed parts.....but it was no trouble to find them. But if it happened with a Guzzi........? But still I do like the look of the V35III...would be a great cycle to zip around town in. Not that I really need another cycle............but what the heck.

It's got that classic 'standard' motorcycle look, something you don't see much of in the current manufacturers offerings .

It combines eBay and Craigslist.  That V35 is a really cool looking scooter.  And the V7, well what's not to love there.  Mike, I don't think you'd like the V11 EV with a sidecar unless you lower the rear end ratio.  On my Cali SS I don't even get into 5th gear until at least 70mph and that's at 4000 rpm.  It's a fast bike! 8-)

Just incase someone gets interested in a Moto Guzzi V65SP Lario, especially the '86 and '87 model years, I would suggest staying away from them .

They had a manufacturing defect in the camshaft, cam follower, they were not, or improperly heat treated .

The valves had problems, I think it was an alloy, or heat treatment issue .

They only had a single valve spring, where you usually have two counter wound springs to help reduce valve float .

Usually the engine is a total loss when it 'hand grenades', the usual fix, was to install a 750 engine .

NC Steve, have you made any upgrades to your Jackal?  I'm thinking about installing Todd's stainless H pipe crossover on the Cali SS, as much for easy tranny fluid access as anything.  Will that change have any effect on the mapping?  Mine was set up by Mike Haven at MPH where I bought it.

Thanks, I sent an email to Harper's Moto Guzzi, before I finalized the sale, and after I told him what had been done to the bike, he said that the bike should not give any real problems .

But he did say that I wouldn't go on any long trips with it, until you get a few thousand miles on it, to get the inevitable small problems out of the way .
