Honda CB 750

Can anyone tell me about these beasts - I know that they are reliable and fast and have been offered a runner for a good price - any comments?

It's a 1979 CB 750 FZ

They were very good bikes, back in the day.  The only issue you might have is new spare parts.  The Japs don't provide the excellent parts support we have gotten used to with Beemers - the major reason I got rid of my Virago...

and the same reason I got rid of my Yamaha XV 750 "midnight special" - but that's what you get for buying a 'bike from a piano company!

It was distressing to see so many parts I considered routine maintenance/wear items to be no longer available...  The 750 might be popular enough to have kept a good aftermarket business alive, though.

But Yam only made 1000 of the midnight specials. I bought mine new in Dubai for $1900 and sold it in Norway for $ 3500! after owning it for 10 years and putting 80,000 miles on the clock. The gearbox went (A common failure  - 3 weeks after I sold it to a MC cop.

One of the resons I joined the VJMC - I may just try and turn it around and let it be one more material regret.

One of the good things about Honda ( the only?) is parts support.
That being said, that model , as far as I know, is prone to the "normal" Honda weak spots. Camchain and tensioner, gearbox selector forks and the swingarm bushes. And the famous "fade very quickly" shocks.  Good bottom end, good electrics. I would take a good look at the wheels if you have the spoked ones. Good luck with it.
