Ural fans?

Uh, I thought that some of you folks were planning to be at the BMW rally in wisconsin
on that weekend ?  Maybe this is why the Uralinians chose the same weekend to be
in Virginia ?

Though Virginia is alot closer, I am still planning at this time to get over to Wisconsin.

Loved those Ural Movies... especially the Military sidecar version. I would love one of those complete with machine gun! Thing is, in Switzerland, no one would bat an eyelid. People walk about with assault rifles all the time, probably on their way to some military gig or compulsory target practice. Saw a guy only last week at the railway station. Business suit.... and STG90 over his shoulder. Couple of weeks back I saw 3 rough looking Harley riders and the lead rider had a rifle in a leather holster strapped to his forks and to top that he was dressed in animal skins!! No, I had not been drinking and nor was I under the influence of drugs. My wife was with me and she saw it too. Why don't we ever have a camera when we need one?

At this point the long range weather forecast is for rain every day, but I'm crossing all fingers and toes and saying a prayer or two.

Will has 2 power outlets available in the campground and of course, power in the bathhouse.  It's first come, first serve out in the campground, no additional charge, just a convenience.  We use it during cold weather for an electric blanket!

Great pictures, Steve!  Graham hadn't seen the 'custom' instrument pods.  Had to explain that one to him.  We had a fantastic time last weekend and it was great spending some time with you, Steve.  Hope to see you up there again.  I'll let you know next time we head that way.

Please explain the custom gauge mounts to me, as well.  I guess I am a little slow.
I don't see how he is keeping the GPSr mounted, either!

I can't explain the GPS mounting: I believe it's one of those strange, ritualistic, Ural PFM things. Or maybe velcro.

But, the 4 round black things the individual gauges are mounted in? The owner said he was at the hardware store in the plumbing dept., looking at PVC pipe that he planned to angle cut, paint and then somehow mount up under his fairing, although quite how, he wasn't sure. Upon glancing down the aisle while scratching his head, deep in thought, he said he noticed the old fashioned, $1 toilet tank floats.

"Hmmmm", he thinks, "already round, already black, waterproof, and cheap! If I cut one wrong, it only costs me a buck!"
Four dollars later, some scrap steel bar, and voila, a custom one-off "dash", fit for a Russian King!

May be a little late but I'll put my two cents in.  I have an '03 Ural Tourist the first year of the 750cc motor and the front disc brake.  It is a ton of fun,  the high points is the robust electrical system (35 amps).  I have a pair of running lights and outlets for two vests on the rig and never have a problem with problems of a low battery.  It starts enstusiasticly in below zero weather.  The really cool thing about Urals is the reverse which is standard on all rigs.  The stuff that I can grip about is the weird crude wiring which seems to work okay.  I have replaced a few wires with larger guage wire and in line fuses.  I have the running lights and the vests running off an auxiliary fuse box.  The '07's have a newer wiring harness that looks great along with a Japanese alternator.  This is a one wheel drive and is not worth much in snow or mud.  That rear wheel just spins away.  The two wheel drive models are supposed to be better.  The new tranny's have helical gears whereas mine has straight cut gears.  The new ones shift A LOT smoother.  There is even rumor of a fuel-injected motor in the future.  So I guess old ones are okay but the new ones are great.  jep
