Thoughts on new Thruxton?

Any of you ridden one of these and formed an opinion? From what I've read in the scooter mags it's a nice enough little sled, but a tad more porky & EPA-strangled than most had hoped. I think folks were expecting a 900cc monster that didn't quite materialize.
Surely much of this could be cured with a pipe change, air filter, maybe cam, the typical twin tricks, no?
A local guy's got a very clean 2005 with just a few thousand miles that could be had for around $5K... :-?

They're pretty, but that's all I know.  If I was going for a modern Triumph I doubt I would go for the retro models (maybe the scrambler....) but I would (as I've probably said too many times) love to try out a Daytona 675.  How did they do that with well under 400 pounds?

I think they are great, and they very rarely come up on the used market over here which is a good sign, also there are loads of trick/hot parts now to let the beast off the chain....

I think they definitely look the part - if I had plenty of cash I'd probably be looking for one myself.
But then I've always had a "thing" for British twins, especially Nortons, and women who were no good for me, too !

I've always loved the look of the Thruxtons.  We just got a new one in at the store..black.  For a brand new price of $7999, it's a pretty good deal IMHO.  We had a beautiful yellow one a couple of years ago that I was all agoo goo about.  But alas, still having height problems...

I would be more inclined to buy that than I would the vast majority of overpriced plastic the manufacturers keep trying to foist on us.  It actually LOOKS like a motorcycle instead of a mutant grasshopper that got kicked in the arse!!!

I'm looking into this at the moment, but i cant split the mosern classics. I'm thinking a black bonneville, now the 2007 comes with the 900cc as standard, or a used t100. They're cheaper than the others, leaving me with cash for panniers or pipes. If I want to I could put scrambler pies on it and it would look more like the classic scramblers, or add ace bars and reverse cones for my own thruxton style.

BUT i have a slightly embarassing confession - I cant get past the steve mcqueen styel (I'm 26, he died the year I was born) regular bonnie, maybe go for an ISDT theme......

Its a pretty looking thing I'll give it that, but I'm not sure I'd have one personally, but if its anything like the new bonny then it should be a blast to ride.

Just did over 1,000 miles over three days in the hill country. Two of the guys I was with were on thruxtons and seemed to handle the roads every bit as good as the Ducatis and Beemers did.

We had good weather today so I brushed the dust off my Bonnie and took it out with the Ugly Mugs Motorcycle Gang.  (My mug was so ugly the waitresses broke two of them; now I drink from a plain coffee cup.)  One of the guys knows more windy paved gorgeous back roads than I knew existed around here; it was a really good day.  Too bad I can't remember how to get back that way.  I was very lost, and loved it.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but yesterday my riding buddy Chris and I rode over to one of the nearby dealers who are carrying the new Hyosung line of bikes to look at their cruiser, the GV650.  My wife, Pattimarie had seen one pull up beside her at tha traffic light the other day, and fell in love with it immediately!  (First glimmer of spark in her eyes about wanting another bike since her "unfortunate accident" last June!)  The dealer only had one cruiser on the showroom floor (in blue), and we couldn't take it out for a spin.  (They said they were supposed to receive more this week.)  But I gotta tell you, it looked really nice!  Kind of like a V-Rod, just a little smaller overall.  Low and sleek, belt-driven, water-cooled V-twin engine.  And the seat was as low as on Pattimarie's beloved Suzuki 650 Savage, too!

I gotta tell you, after looking at this bike, I'm excited too!  I know it's pretty much an "about face" from the classic Brit bikes like the Thruxton, but if it will get my wife back on a bike again, I'll be the happiest guy on the planet!!

 [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  Oooooh!  That's a gorgeous bike!  I may have to look up a dealer myself and have a look.  I love the look of the V-Rods, but I just don't like the forward controls...I guess it could just take some getting used to.  I've riden a little LIFAN (another Chinese brand)250 cruiser that was really a lot of fun.  I could actually flat foot the thing and it was a whole new world!!!
