Update

Now 520mm in the last 96 hours.
Looks like the rain will break today, but just for some excitement there is the possibility of a cyclone in the Gulf and one in the coral sea, if either eventuates that will mean more rain and possibly some strong winds.

WOW... I just converted that to something I can relate to and it's time to break out the Ark! That's over 20 inches for us metric challenged folks.

We haven't had THAT much but been pretty wet.  Half way through Feb we were in drought conditions and ended the month as the wettest in history!

Can you fit pontoons to the R65?

All our bikes are staying warm and dry under the house. If we go anywhere for the next few days we will use the 4WD.

Not that there is much of anywhere to go. When I got up this morning the highway between us and Cairns was cut (now open), the Gillies range was cut for 3 days (now sort of open) and the Kuranda range was cut most of last night (now open). The highway south is cut in multiple places between Innisfail and Townsville - but this will clean up in a matter of hours once the rain stops and a low tide cycle passes.

For those with StalkerBook - here is a video of some fun lovers boating down the highway near Ingham. https://www.facebook.com/annika.pothofkraaz/videos/10214888136659114/

The towns of Tully and Babinda, 160 and 60km South of us respectively vie for the title of "wettest town in Australia" (and quite possibly on Earth). Both have had more than 1000mm in the last week. To put that into a figure more easily translated in non-metric countries, that is more than 3 feet of rain!

We are however kind of used to it and the infrastructure copes fairly well. Our climate is also why sensible people have gas stoves, solar hot water and a generator. The longest we have ever been without power was back in the late 90s when it took 5 days to get the power back. The suburb sang to the sound of hundreds of little generators whilst new arrivals who had blindly bought "developer special" homes with electric everything and no generator wondered what happened.

Thanks Tony,

I can actually visualise that exact piece of road in the video when it has been dry.  I have some photos of one year when after 23 inches of rain in 48 hours off the range, only 400 metres of road was closed.  The level came up very quickly though.

Yesterday at work one of the girls showed me a photo from her uncle of the pub at Euramo with the tinnies parked outside (a small boat with outboard motor).  I immediately remarked that Euramo and Murray Flats were always the first two places to flood when it rained in north Qld!

Just to put this in perspective in the Ingham, Tully and Cardwell areas, you will find a tinnie on a trailer parked in the yard of just about every second house.  Fishing is popular.

I was born in Ingham. And yes you are correct the Murray flats still go under at the drop of a hat, even after millions being spent to raise the road level.

The township of Bellenden Ker is about to feature in the world news, in the past 12 months it has received 8 metres of rain.

We are enroute to Stanthorpe for a VW nutters meetup (Kombi muster).

Left on Sunday and are 24 hours ahead of the rain, roads closing behind us. We were prepared to camp by the side of flooded creeks, got annexe, tent, fridge and enough Lentils to feed an army (fortunately no needed).
