I saw a bumper sticker that said "I'll believe corporations are people when the State of Texas executes one."

Hey you guys, we're waiting.

If it is any small consolation I killed a company last month. Silly people in control did not want to pay my client so we issued a thing called a "statutory demand".

A stat demand is a nasty piece of fairly old law, essentially if the company served with a stat demand does not seek to have the demand set aside before 14 days after being served then the company is insolvent at law, no matter how much money it has in the bank or what assets it owns.

The silly sole director thought it was a big joke, after all his company is/was worth millions and it only owed my client a bit over $5k.

What he didn't count on was my client's willingness to go the distance (the costs far exceeded the debt owed to him) and as a result just on 7  weeks ago the winding-up application succeeded and a Liquidator was appointed.

The director (who is also the major shareholder) was able to negotiate a settlement with the liquidator, but by the time he paid the liquidator, his own lawyers (belatedly engaged), my client (including his costs [namely me]) the little exercise cost him the thick end of $50k, all because he thought he would be a big tough bad-ass bully  and not pay a $5k bill.

Sometimes work can be very satisfying.

Well played Tony. I love to hear about a greedy bastard getting what they deserve.

This is it, last day. As of 4:00 pm I will be retired. For at least 15 hrs anyway. Start a new career at a railroad at 7:00 am in the morning.

It was fun. But sadly the losses to ar$eholes are more frequent. The problem is that there are far more ar$eholes than good guys.

All the very best for your new career following your very brief retirement

Just wanted to give my Forum friends an update. I have been working as a contract Data Analyst for a railroad since I was laid off. The pay was ok but being chained to a cubicle for 8 hours on third shift was slowly killing me. Not to mention the hour commute each way every day.

Well that all changed today. I just accepted a position as Director of IT for the Sheriff's Office where I live. Ten minutes from home and normal working hours. Two technicians and me supporting a police force of approx 150 people and I am only responsible to two people, the Sheriff and the Assistant Sheriff.

How many IT jobs come with a gun and a badge?  :D

Well done you, but please do not confuse the two. You would look silly with a revolver pinned to your shirt.

Really, are you sworn peace officer in that job?

We'll have to be careful about our tales of speeding through Georgia on this forum then!

Now all I have to do is talk them into turning mt R65 into something like this.

I just bought a beautiful, full leather jacket surplus from the German police. I did remove the stuck-on vinyl POLIZEI
letters across the back so as not to be a target. Check it out at MidwayUSA.com. Ninety-nine bucks for a jacket that would sell in USA for close to 400 smackers.

With the current climate in the USA about law enforcement, I don't think I would want to draw attention to myself with police affiliation on my motorcycles, or jacket !!!! :o :o :o :o

Sad as that may seem .
