How do you guys transition to the wrong side of the road? I've thought about driving on the left side and I just don't think I could do it.

50+ years of ingrained training just wouldn't turn lose that easy.

Tony, where are you riding to?

We're doing 66, when I did it last year I tried to get 'she who us to be obeyed' to join me on the trip, but she was not interested. However once she saw my photo's and comments from friends on the trip with me, she regretted her decision not to come.
Roll the clock to last October and there is a repeat of Henry Cole's second R66 trip on the telly. After watching the one on the South West she suddenly pipes up that she now really likes the idea of riding route 66 and that I'd better book it for this summer- which kind of scuppered my replacing the 1200R with an Rs this year.
I'm not complaining as there was just too much to take in and it did get a little overwhelming when you only have 19 days.

As for riding on the wrong side of the road, that was easy. Its a little harder in a car or I find it so when I drive on the continent. I guess if you're in a hire car it would be easier as the drivers seat is also on the wrong side. Yet when I'm on the bike its not a problem, first time you did it, it takes a little concious effort to reprogrammed the direction of your 'life saver looks' but after you've got used to that now worries.

Obviously riding on the right hand side of the road is a blasphemous concept, but you have to make allowances for quaint local customs of barbarian nations who cannot make a good cup of tea and don't understand English even when one raises one's voice...  ;D

Sounds like a fun trip, if you have spare time maybe hook through the DFW area for a good home-cooked meal and a brew...

I love that Justin, but this time we've gone with an organised tour company so we're tied to the group itinerary. If it was just me then I'd rather just make it up as we go along but as Fiona is pretty apprehensive about about riding in the US she wanted the security of an organised tour first time out.  Hopefully she'll enjoy the riding as much as I did, then next time we come over we'll just hire the bikes and go rideabout.

Bengt Phorqs and I are expecting Mike Sherwood, aka Lucky Lou, arriving back in Tejas in 2017. Our last outings with Lou were, well, rather rowdy... as they should be. Justin, we'll stick, uh, honor you with the bar tabs from the FTW Stockyard saloons.

I have never had a problem I used to drive regularly to the south of France for holidays the biggest issue I have is re adjusting to automatic from stick shift. First time I visited Texas I stayed with my pal who at that time lived in Austin he had a rice burner (Yammy I think) which he let me loose on, I do recall a different level of concentration as I was riding alone and it is easy to cock up.

If the stars align as expected should be over in the fall of 17... with any luck I will be able to tie it up with the Chuck Wagon cook off in the Stockyards where I will be teaching them Cowboys a trick or too  [smiley=tongue.gif]  I will be travelling west from the East coast with a stop over Beaumont for a spell then in Cowtown for a few days before heading for the Border towns.
Barbeques and anything that goes bang sounds good to me..........

When you get by Cowtown we can head to the range if you have time.  I probably have a few pieces that might be rather scarce in your neck of the woods and you'd probably get a big hoot outa pullin' the trigger on em.
