Is that "it" for Clarkson
« on: March 11, 2015, 01:00:31 PM »
Seems Jerremy has upset the PC brigade again who are condemning his restaurant bust up without knowing the facts, one of the BBC,s biggest cash cows will be picked up straight away by competitors.
He may be many things but I would not have him down as violent, the producer must have done more than offer him lettuce during their cold March Yorkshire shoot. Going a bit too far canning the un shown programmes and cancelling the rest of the series.............

I find it difficult to care. It is after all a show specifically drawn to appeal to one-eyed, bigoted, knuckle-dragging misogynists with Clarkson as the grand wizard.

Clarkson has been on my personal "better dead" list for years.

Are us colonials missing something? I don't understand what this is in reference to.

The weekly TV series "Top Gear".  An entertaining car show in which three of the UK's most well know faces, battle each other attempting to destroy each others credibility and whatever they happen to be driving on the day.

Quite juvenile in its humour at times but refreshing after the usual PC garbage that is regulated to be shoved down our throats nowadays.  The series is built on the personalities of the three presenters.

There is a US version which is quite tame and an Aussie version which flopped.  It is in its 22 year and is watched worldwide.

Google "The Stig".

There have been some brilliant moments on this programme and the occasional knuckle dragging however here are a couple of my favourite moments....

Clarkson owns 30% of the Top gear production company. He must be worth many millions. I guess he'll survive.

The incident happened in a hotel in Hawes (great bike country) my guess would be that they were filming on his favourite  road ... Buttertubs

Well the Beeb has pulled the plug on Mr Clarkson.

Where now for Top Gear?

Top Gear was a success before Clarkson. It is a good format and will be reinvented with a new cast.

Top Gear is (was?) a great show.  The British version is so much better than the American version, due largely (IMO) because of the interactions between Clarkson, May and Hammond.  (Of course, the Stig is a good gimmick).

There have been a number of memorable episodes, but one of my favorites was where they each bought used (i.e., beater) sport utility vehicles and took them across South America.  Another great story was the one (over serveral episodes) where they were trying to kill a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, including chaining it to jetty while the tide came in and putting it on the roof of building that was being demolished by implosion.

I will concede that they have been politically incorrect at times (like the comment about  the person on the bridge in  Burma (or was it about the bridge itself?).  That is all part of the low-brow appeal of the show.

Without Clarkson, it would never be the same.

I have a truck like that one.  My version so far has involved skidding off an icy bridge and dropping a tree on it.  But I'm not doing it on purpose!
