Thanks for the web link! - most useful.
I am doing reps to improve the strength in my Biceps, triceps, deltoid and latissimus dorsi (as advised by a friend) I started with 1 kg. dumbells and it took about a week before I upped the weight to 3 kg. As soon as these get 'easy' I will progress to 5 kg weights. The first week was not easy with the lactic acid build up etc but it gets easier by the day. The bow is set up for 64#. Pics will follow.
I used to hunt wild pig in Brunei but that was quite a few years back. We used home made recurve bows made from bamboo (on the outside of the limb) laminated with black palm wood ( inside the limbs) which gave about a 75# draw weight. Arrows were made from bamboo with hand forged broadheads. THEN, I was a young fit soldier. Too much sitting on my ass in front of a computer in the intervening years has taken its toll !!

That sounds good my friend!
But, do try to work your exercises so that you also strengthen the muscles in your upper back between your shoulder blades - I don't even know what they are called, but they are very important in drawing the bow - you don't want to have it all in your arm and outer shoulder.  It is harder to isolate those, so sometimes one just has to do what you can.  Exercises with a dumbell that might work that area could be something like back flies with a dumbell in each hand (start light) or bent over at waist (brace head against wall if necessary) and pulling dumbells straight up to chest (near breastbone) and also doing the same but far apart (to shoulder).   Try to do as many reps as you can without going really fast and feel/try to isolate the different muscle groups - again, you want to strengthen without ripping something.   A rowing machine or an old fashioned rowboat aren't bad either!   I'll do some pushups, too, but  the exertion force is kinda in the wrong direction, unless you work on  going down to the floor slowly, or something..   just doesn't work as well.

I'm also working on a DIY rig which consists of a pulley attached to an anchor bolt in the garage wall. The pulley is at shoulder height. a rope runs through the pulley to a 25 litre can on the floor, with water in it. I will wear the release aid and attach it to the other end of the rope and then just pull on it as if I was drawing the bow. Should work!

That's clever - and should be very good simulation!
