Thought I'd start a rant.  :D

But seriously, considering ease of: getting parts, working on, ease to ride (like how high off the ground is it?), great center stand, etc...

What would you buy and/or ride?

Late '70's to mid '80's Moto Guzzi, they are about as close to an 'airhead' BMW you'll find, without owning a BMW .

As with our era BMW's, you don't see one very often, kinda unique !!!!

I'd also go with a Moto Guzzi - I used to really like the looks of the LeMans bikes, but a California would be cool too - maybe even an Ambassador..  

I like the looks of the Triumph T120 and T140 bikes too, but I'd rather spend more time riding than wrenching.

Not exactly a flat twin airhead but almost.

I like the new Guzzi V7 in it's various forms. It looks good and it's the lightest of the modern classics. It's low and compact and has a torquey engine. Power may seem low for the size of the engine but it's as much a low compression R65 with almost 15% more torque at sensibly low revs.

It has a 5 speed box. I'd hate a fussy bike with a 6 speed box.

I like the modern Guzzi V7 Breva-based retro classic, too - I just wish that it had a leeeeeeeetle bit larger dimensions for taller folks.   If they could carefully bump up the power just a bit more without sacrificing the pleasant drivability that would be nice too - wouldn't have to be much, maybe just pumping the cylinders up to 850-900cc would do it if they could.

Nice bike anyway - if I somehow end up losing my R65LS and need to replace it with a modern bike, the V7 Guzzi would be much more to my liking than anything in the BMW fleet right now.

I'd get an XR1200,the Harley that's made to handle. If Scott Parker thinks it handles ok,I'm pretty sure I'd be happy with it too.

I really fancy the last generation airheads such as the R100R, the R100 Mystic or the classics like the R90S or the /5's.

I'm with Randall. Best bike ever for me.
 Here's mine the day I bought it. I enjoy it so much I had to do refurbishment a bit at a time so I could keep on riding it. Paint job this winter and it'll be finished.

Honda Trail 90 (model CT90).  This bike can go on the street or trails with its dual-range transmission.  The engine is simple to maintain and delivers about 100 mpg.  It's a perfect bike for the post-apocalyptic era  ;D

I miss my old R100RT so maybe I'll get another some day.  What would be very interesting would be to get one of the Russian or Chinese hack rigs and swap in a more modern R100 drivetrain...

Missing my R100GS. It was 'too new' for me to import back to the US so brought the R65 instead. I like the R65 but I liked the R100GS mucho more. I'm 6'3" so it fit me much better.
