Tool of the month Club
« on: December 15, 2006, 01:13:12 AM »
I could not resist -

This months tool $20 from the Snapon guy - Spring loaded pointed drift for pushing the float shaft/pin out of the carbs.  About the size of a pencil.  John Jones had one when we worked on his bike.  This was not a casual tool acuisition - I had to have one.  Will post pic when I get home.

Oops! Does that mean I shouldn't have used the de-pointed nail I made up years ago that has done at least four float pins now?? :o
Actually it would be easier with a special tool as it would take the need to get it spot on the shaft and not have it slip into the alloy pillar, but it can be done with care.
Pretty well the most important thing is ensuring you are pushing the pin the right direction, I still use a magnifying lens to confirm, then supporting the pillar square on. I push till the nail gets it started out, then pull the pin from the other direction with pliers. They are so cheap I always replace them.
Good to see what it looks like.
