Sport Rant
« on: February 07, 2011, 05:55:02 AM »
We have enjoyed a great weekend of sport here in the UK culminating with last nights Super bowl.
As an avid fan of the NFL i had a few thoughts on the game
1... man of the match.....Jerry Jones
Anyone who can sell tickets for $200 to watch the game in the car park gets my vote it begs the question how much was it to actually get in the stadium.
2...Half time show deciding to get away from the geriatrics was a good move but sadly Slash stole the show verdict very forgettable
3...The pitch was the deciding factor Astro turf should be banned it ended my football career.I played senior league football(ok soccer) until my mid 40,s when i bust my knee in a dodgy tackle on it, now every time i walk past a plastic bag my knee shakes
4...Football (er soccer)remains and is the Beautiful game.
When Mick McCarthy the glorious Yorkshire man  said Manchester Who!!!! he meant it and proceeded to Stuff Man United 2  1 with a team that cost less  than Fergies shirt ending there 29 game unbeaten run.
It just goes to show you can throw as much money as you like at a team but you cannot beat true passion Oilygarks and Arabs take note.
Lou ....Rant over

So you like the Wanderers?

+1 on the Astro Turf ban.  There were at least two injuries I saw that can be directly laid at the feet of the designer of Astro Turf.  There is nothing like Grass, Water and Mud!

There were a bunch of "slips" or lost footing near the 20 yard line at both ends for some reason.

What halftime show?  What a waste.  What ever happened to the marching bands?  Now that is a halftime show - letting the kids strut there stuff.

The Wolverhamtpon Wanderers and Blackpool have been two very entertaining teams this season, ive always been sucker for the underdog.
Frankly i would rather see a marching band than what was served up last night.
While we are on the subject the Aguilera version of your Anthem was manic why do some singers think a warbling scream is the way to go, it looked like a poor audition on American Idol if, Randy had been there he would have shown her the door.
seems im not alone on this thought..

I also agree that the mashed-up black eyed peas that were served as the halftime show were really terrible.   Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones, and U2 all had FAR superior shows, and exhibited the fact that they still had the talent to do a live show in a stadium.   I think that the peas are one of those many groups nowadays that totally suck in live performance, but with the wonders of modern recording studios, computers, and technicians, could turn out respectable albums.

The same could be said for that Christina Aguilera chick who couldn't sing our national anthem correctly.   At least the young lady from the "Glee" TV show who sang America the Beautiful at the very start did a wonderful job - and she doesn't have gold albums on her wall (yet)!

I don't watch the show myself, but my wife is absolutely hooked on it - as are many of the women that she works with.   Now, they are all high school teachers, so that may well have something to do with it...

I really like Jane Lynch, who plays the gym teacher (?).  I've yet to see an episode, but if I were home & bored, I would watch it just to see her.
She played the shrink for the guys on 2 1/2 Men in several episodes.
