Biker Instinct+Local Knowledge=Life saver

Or why did he do it part 2
Driving home from my daughters after a lovely  afternoon with the grand kids my wife and i decided on the "scenic" route rather than the motorway, we were about 5 miles from home as we approached a section of dual carriageway i noticed 2 Harley's riding side by side they were coming to the end of the dual carriageway towards us.
A this point behind them i spotted a group of about 6 rice burners travelling at very high speed (50 limit) instead of slowing down at the end of the dual carriageway and pulling behind the Harley's they decided to overtake, the lead bike popping a wheelie as he did so.
My instinct took over and i stuck the car as far into the kirb as i dare...at this point the wife starts berating me for bad driving just as the expected happened.....the rice burner was now on the chevrons as the front wheel came down he lost it momentarily.I knew the "white lines" were very high there having been re covered recently.
Counter steer threw him across the road towards us, he missed the wing mirror by inches but stayed upright and recovered it luckily there was nothing behind me.I replied to the wife that's why i did that i just had a gut feeling the guy was going to loose it.
Had i not pulled over so promptly he would have been slap bang in the middle of the radiator with god knows what outcome i wouldn't have had time to react.....I do hope he learned the lesson and stops riding like a prat.

Ugh, what an idiot.  Glad you could foresee what was going to happen and saved not only your family, but the crotch-rocket rider's life, as well.  Let's hope he learned his lesson.

Glad nothing worse happened.  But if he's like most people he's probably come up with some way to blame you for the close call.

The old sportbike/Harley rider battle. At least the Harley guys are only trying to look tough and cool, the sportsbike guys are trying to be like their latest MotoGP star.

That guy has no idea how lucky he is that you ride a motorcycle so you could see what was happening.  A regular cage driver would not have had a clue what was going on or what to do.

Maybe it scared him just enough that he'll figure it out.

Good on you for being an alert and heads-up driver!  You also may have educated your wife on an important skill of being alert to unpredictable (to her, at least) riders, so some additional good came of it besides saving your family!

It is likely, I expect, that one of Darwin's theories will yet come to the forefront with that numb-skulled rider - trying a risky stunt like that with SO MANY reasons NOT to attempt to overtake, much less in a hot-dog fashion like that, indicates that there is a serious lack of gray cells in his cranium that a single set of soiled underwear will not likely correct.   It is good to just not be around them when that time comes..

...Just saw this.  Nice work.  Proof that motorcyclists make better drivers.  I also (often) do stuff while driving that my wife thinks is whacky, only to point out later why I did what I did if it wasn't obvious.  Your ability to predict what was going to happen was a combination of your experience and the fact that you were paying attention.

Your story makes me remember of a very popular Riding Destination; Sierra Madre.

I't a very long stretch of twisties that follow's the line of mountains that cuts across central Luzon.

Statistically, an average of 5 people have accidents there, but it is not unlikely that one is a fatality. All of the accidents there are caused by
motorbikes.

Not just motorbikes; "underbone" motorbikes. Dubbed the "Cockroaches" of the road, there are nimble, weaves traffic like a mainiac, with ineducated riders that feel like they are valentino rossi
with the power of invulnerability.

Once, I had the chance to ride there, My Dad Took his GS, my uncle took his K bike and my cousin took his Super Four....

.... I took my Honda XR200.

Since the others left me to the dirt, the Friggin' underbones with open pipes louder than god-knows-what would tailgate and stay dangerously close to my side; taunting me along the twisties.

Enough is enough, I Took full speed in the corners; the XR may not be known for speed, but it has great turning and handling capabilities.
The annoying underbones(It's not just one; it's a whole buch of em')
would really try to overtake me. Remember have have very loud open pipes and there were many of them. Imagine my temper; I was so irate I was tempted to shunt them off the road and into the deep cliffs along the road.

At last there was this hairpin curve, I cleared the curve but the substandard thinking and skill of the F***ING Underbone rider wasn't
enough to negotiate the tricky corner, he ended up on the opposite lane and landed on the path of a group of Harley Riders; all I heard was the meldey of horns, but fortunately no sounds of a crash(maybe I lost hearing due to their open pipes). I never saw that group of Idiotic underbones for the rest of the trip. I did manage to catch up with my dad and company about 20 minutes later, having a cup of coffee. Told them the story and had a good laugh.

In this country (Britain) we have a new driving test for motorcycle license, it's now much more difficult and complex --  if I did it now I'd surely fail! But those high-speed riders who kill themselves are often good at handling their bikes and know the road rules - problem is, they take terrible risks. But nobody is going to take risks in a driving test. So what's the point?
