« on: August 08, 2009, 09:46:37 AM »
Kinda curious what fuel prices are around the world these days, significantly lower than this time last year .

Price for unleaded regular at the local station I usually fill up at is : $2.60US/US gallon, which works out to be around .49 euro/liter .

Hey Lou, how much of that is tax?  We pay about $.40/gal in tax to the greedy bastidges in Washington who then take our money and give it away.  I work in the oil patch, have for over 30 years, and I've seen prices rise and fall, boom & bust, several times.  You'll never convince me that the spike we saw last year wasn't orchestrated by OPEC and the Axis of Evil as a way to influence politics in the USA.  Guess what?  It worked!

If you want to get an idea how prices are going to be in the coming months then monitor the worldwide rig count.  If the rig count goes up, then the price of oil is going up.  If it starts to fall then oil prices are going to fall.  Right now we're kind of holding steady.

I never really pay attention.  I have a hundred mile a day commute and I'm not willing to get killed by a logging truck at 3:30 some rainy morning on my bicycle, so I buy gas.   >:(

Prices have started creeping up here in the Phoenix area, and with a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico, it's sure to go up, just because it can .

Current price for 87 octane unleaded is $2.66US per US gallon, looks like that works out to be around $.85AU per liter (litre?) .

Interestingly for Australia at least - diesel is $1.14 per litre.

Historically - for the past as long as I can remember diesel has always been about 10-20c/l more expensive.

Here in the US, the price of diesel has been about 20% less than auto fuel, then around July of '08, it was as high as 25% more than auto fuel, currently, it's around 8% less than auto fuel here in Phoenix .
