Insurance -- what do you pay for the R65

OK, I live in New Jersey, the state in the US with the highest automobile insurance rates (Try $1,800 per year for a 14 year old car, with a good driving record and no claims ever made).  I just renewed my motorcycle policy with Progressive, and it was not bad.  

For coverage for the full year (some people only take out coverage for the months when riding is good), I paid about $225.  That includes liability coverage (100-300-50), comprehensive (fire/theft/etc) and collision at an agreed value of $5,000 (figure high, so I don't get shorted).  Also rolled in is roadside assistance.

This was a better deal than my old insurer, Rider, who would not write comprehensive or collision on anything that is 650cc or under, and was charging about $240 just for the liability coverage.

How bad you all getting wacked in other states and provinces?

I've got Progressive for the R1150R, and I believe it's around $450 a year, coverage limits are a bit higher than yours, but I also ride all year long .

I've got Hagerty for the R65 (collector vehicle insurance), cost is $145 a year, I checked on the Moto Guzzi with Hagerty, and it's $140 a year, the '84 LS will be around $140 as well .

I was told, that when I do finally get them all insured, the price will probably go down to around $110 a year for each bike, due to multiple policies .
 
But you are limited on your usage, can't drive it to work, just pleasure usage, and you need a 'regular' use bike, so if the R65 is the only bike you have, they won't insure you .

Also the bike has to be valued at least $5000 or they won't insure it as well .

So I claim the '81 R65 is worth $5500 .

Granted, we don't have as long of a real riding season as folks down south, but it costs me $225 with  STATE FARM to insure the R65 for 12 months, full coverage, no usage restrictions, and $250 deductible.   I do have multiple car policies and homeowner's policy that knocks it down, plus a safe driving record, being over 30 years old, etc.  However, insurance in New Hampshire is still much higher than it is in Vermont, due to our proximity to Massachusetts Metro areas and their higher levels of traffic.

Just before I changed from State Farm to Progressive in 2003, State Farm was charging $645 for the R65 full coverage for a year, $350 a year for just liability .

That's with all three cars, both bikes and homeowner insurance, 30 year customer, never a claim or chargeable tickets,  not much of a deal from my view point .

Since dumping State Farm, my coverage limits have gone up 30%, and the premiums have gone down 45% .

I am classified in the high risk category, never/not married, three sports cars, and four motorcycles, I'm about in the same risk category, as a teenager, even though I just turned 53 last weekend .

I went with Progressive for both my R65s and the Chinese scooter my wife "just had to have". Discounts for being a home owner and multiple vehicles. For liability only I recall I'm paying $261.00 total per year for all three bikes.

Have three "cages" with Progressive also. Full coverage on all. Saving $1300.00 per year over my former Hartford policy.

Im with ebike 120 pounds (200 bucks) full comp, no noclaims so will be 30% cheaper nexy year...i hope, includes full recovery legal ect ect.With agreed value.

I insure both my R65 and R100 for £120 the pair fully comp, that includes breakdown, plus insurance and breakdown for going abroad as well.  They are insured as classics.  no limited miles either.

Not a bad deal for a 43 year old and his two old nails.

Thats after they hiked it up by £20 last year for a minor prang I had in my car - bit annoyed that car and bike insurance is not mutually exclusive, although no-claims bonuses are
