$2.00 tool roll
« on: August 30, 2008, 11:59:35 AM »
Not that I'm cheap... just resourceful.

Wanted a tool roll for the bike but balked at the price on what's available on the market. So, went by the big box store and dropped a whole $1.98 on a canvas nail apron.

Dear wife is always available for my stitching needs so a few pencil lines and... TaDah! Still a few more items to add and/or delete. The roll fits in the tail cone or forward storage trays.

Brilliant! I love it. Now I'm mad at myself for not thinking of it. I love inexpensive solutions!

Hahaha, this great stuff of yours made me remember how I used to make simple solutions like this long time ago. Still have similar one, hand made, only larger in my car. And it serves the purpose after 25 years.

Guess I need to add Lowe's Home Improvement to my list of BMW parts and accessory sources. Already have Ace Hardware for their good selection of O-rings and other BMW bits.

Here's my latest addition to my bride-modified, $2.00 tool roll. This set of "stubby" metric box/OE wrenches - 8mm up to 17mm - went for $12.98. I replaced the longer metric wrenches with the shorties. More tools. Less weight.

Sure, they are made in the same country that now builds the PD BMW's and the other Rotax hotrods, but Lowes offers a lifetime warranty at any of their stores. Just keep your receipt.

Bundle o' zip ties! Got the Harley safety wire tucked away, too.

W-a-y back in the day, when I was doing freelance motorcycle repair in the evenings and racing on weekends, I had only a few zips in my toolbox but rarely used them as they were too "expensive" for poor ol' me. They did sell for substantially more than they do today. So...

With that history, you may better understand why I cannot resist buying the big tubs of zip ties in myriad colors. I have, without exaggerating, thousands of the nylon "handcuffs" in my shop. Got a lotta catching up to do!
