I've got two gigs on the 4th!  One at 8:00am  :o for a pancake breakfast in the park and then at 5:00pm at the Springs for dancing.

Should be fun!  We usually relax at home in the evening instead of going to the local fireworks.  No need to go anywhere as my neighbors tend to put on a show of their own.

Hey, Lou. You and I ride with the same outlaws!
As ol' Willie Nelson sez, "Whiskey for my men and beer for the horses."

And again, as on this 4th of July plus many other holidays, I'll keep a good thought for my son presently serving in Afghanistan.[smiley=dankk2.gif]

Good question Lou, thanks for asking!  I don't know about the rest of the inmates but I'm going to fire up my big old barrel smoker on Friday afternoon and put on a big old slab of Texas Longhorn Steer.  After around 18 hours or so we'll slice it up and eat ourselves silly on the barbecue.  I'll smoke some baby back pork spare ribs too, and no doubt the lovely Mrs. Earline Phorqs will prepare some of her renowned potato salad.  Here is a link to "The Barbecue Song" which explains in great detail, more than you wanted, how we folk from the Southern United States feel about barbecue.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ubTQfr_tyY&feature=channel_page

No doubt we'll also have copious quantities of that golden nectar from the little old South Texas town that time forgot, Shiner.  When the sun finally does go down I may just climb up onto the roof of the house with a fine cigar and a glass of single malt and watch no less than 5 fireworks displays.

And sometime during the day I'll probably reflect on what it means to be an American.  Lou, you really need to get yourself over here sooner than later so we can show you around.  Don't worry about a scooter to ride between Monte and me we'll take care of you.    :)

If I go to all of the gigs that our group has on the calendar we've got 4 gigs between Friday and Monday - I'll probably miss some as we'll have some of my in-laws over - living on a lake usually nets extra visitors during the summer time here abouts.  I think that my wife's cousin may come over to visit also - he is riding  his /2 from Connecticut down to the Johnson City rally with some of his friends, also on /2 bikes.

Several of the towns in the area have been consolidating on their fireworks shows to curb expenditures due to the economic downturn, but none have cancelled them completely - some have pitched in with neighboring towns to do a "joint" display, though.   Somewhere along the line I hope to get a couple hundred mile "shakedown cruise" in on Tillie before attempting the Big Ride to TN.

Hmm. An interesting version of the House of the Rising Sun - but I have to say that I rather like it - though it sounds suspiciously like the first song in the link....

I'd love to learn to play the mandolin. I had a chance to buy one from a second hand store a year or so ago. I fluffed around and went away. Then at the end of the day I decided I'd go for it. Pity it had been sold in the mean time....

Those that hesitate are on the path of mediocraty. (Unless of course it is marriage - no offence to those who may have recently come into this obviously happy union between a man and a woman. Or I guess in these more liberal times a man and a man or a woman and a woman. I'd go on - but I think I may get a bit of flack from any New Zealanders amongst us ......  ;D)

(Hey - is that kinda like philosophy? I must be getting the hang of this God stuff.  ;D)

What kind of a special ale did they have ?

I'm a home-brewer, and I am always up to try a new recipe if it gets a good review from the ale drinkers !!!!!

Blindjacks would be my kinda joint! Couldn't help but notice the Texas flag hanging on the wall. And your City of New Orleans was a bit all right to boot.

[smiley=beerchug.gif] Here's a round for the boys in the band!
