Buy a new gun now
« on: November 07, 2008, 08:55:49 PM »
My most favorite gun and ammo supply store, Cheaper Than Dirt in Cow Town, Texas, done went and sold a store record $101,000.00 in merchandise the day after the presidential erection, uh, election.  ::)

Last week, they had five Barrett .50 cal shooters in stock at $9999.00 each. By close of business on Wednesday, one remained available. That's some mighty heavy fire power any way you cut it. Not to mention some big bucks being spent.

At the other end of the spectrum, Bananapanties wants a .22 pistol for...what?  Shared this with a buddy at work today. His comment, "you're just gonna piss 'em off with a .22."

For comparison, my thirty-three year old Army Staff Sergeant youngest son took a 9mm round in the chest, was knocked down but got up to return fire thanks to his SAPI -Small Arms Protective Insert- body armor. Score... Army 1 - Tango 0.  Huah!

Bottom line, if you feel the need to own or purchase a pistol, get the proper training and maintain a grasp of what you are doing. Like my granddaddy used to say, "Don't go off half-cocked."

I think ...um, bananapanties? just wants to do some plinking, and it's hard to piss off a non-living target.

I blew all my money on R65 parts, so no new guns for me.  I did splurge on a bunch of ammo (from Cheaperthandirt, now that you mention it) a month ago.  Purely coincidence, I tell you.

I am thinking (and hoping) that this temporary craziness proves to be just a big over reaction.    But looking for the silver lining in it all, it sure is stimulating the Texas economy anyhow.   I suppose that many of us (myself included) would love to come up with any excuse to buy another motorcycle if we could afford to do it, and there are those who like to collect firearms just as much.

I do hope that I don't end up eating alot of crow on this one.

Dammit to hell,

The authors of the second amendment weren't complete idiots.    They might have been amazed, but not suprised to discover their progeny  hemmed in by M1 Abrams,  stealth bombers,  laser guided bunker busters,   biological agents and daisy cutter proximity fused anti personnel thingamabobs.   What the hell is the point then of so much bitching over assault rifles and Barrett .50 cals?  So what?  So my caving in to a prohibition against private ownership of napalm, semtex, and rocket propelled grenades is a "slippery slope" toward total abolishment of hunting rifles?  Uhh... what?  Oh yeah,  the NRA told me so.  I forgot that they tell me how to think.

The real intent of the second amendment will never be ascertained sufficiently to dismiss the interpretation of defense against a corrupt or unrepresentative government, so why aren't the really brave NRA enthusiasts demanding their rights to private ownership of such hardware?  You're gonna keep em at bay with that deer rifle for how long?   Oh yeah?   It has nothing to do with gun rights and everything to do with the your politics.  If Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity tomorrow suggested  that chewing gum was unpatriotic,  too many people out there would be pulling up their pickup trucks  next to gum chewers and yelling 'faggot'!

this stuff just give me a headache.

Ya know, I've read this about ten times - really - and I still have no idea which side of the fence you're on. Now maybe I'm just thick - it has been intimated before - :) - and this is not an insult and please don't get me wrong - I have absolutely no wish to get involved in this conversation - I mean ultimately I don't live in the US - I'm just wondering is all.

Just read the U.S. Supreme Court opinion in Heller v District of Columbia.  End of discussion of the real intent behind the Second Amendment.
