Changing Insurance Company
« on: April 23, 2008, 02:23:17 PM »
I was paying my insurance bill for my Trams Am with Hagerty Insurance, a specialty insurance company that insures collectible, show, antique and special interest vehicles.

I asked about a quote for the R65, and I was given a quote for $173 for full coverage for a year, I'm paying $145 a year with Progressive, and that is just for liability.

I have to send them picture of each side of the bike, and then they will get back to me in about a week.

I was asked the value of the bike, I told them $2800, and that I had just put $2500 worth of work into the bike in the last year.

They won't insure a motorcycle if the value is less than $5000.

You also need to own another motorcycle, or they won't consider it a 'collectible' or 'limited use' vehicle.

Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

Neither one of my bikes would really qualify for limited use, as I ride them to work.  I really need to get comprehensive on the Triumph, the values on those things are going crazy.

Hmm, I guess there is something to be said for living up here in the great white north -
I pay a bit under $200 a year for full coverage on my 82 LS, with a $250 deductible, though
it is not covered/insured as a collectible/limited use.  I do have another bike that gets more miles per year,
and with the way fuel prices are going, I am still looking into a sidecar rig even though the wife and
I each drive cars that get at least 30 MPG, we unfortunately rack up alot of commuting miles.

An airhead sidecar rig will probably only give you 35 mpg, unfortunately.
