OK, folks, I'll fess up..... It was I who PM'd Justin and asked him if the levels at which one advances from a "newbie" to a "Junior Member" to a "Full Member", etc. were locked in place and could not be changed, or if as administrator, he could give the levels new names and/or add more levels.  Why, you ask?

I regularly visit several motorcycle enthusiast forums where you can register and post your opinions, advice, rants, pics, jokes, etc., such as Chromeheads.org, BMWMOA.org. Moto Guzzi's Wildgoosechase.com, England's Moto-Bins.uk (and others).  In each of these forums, once you officially register, you start out as a "newbie" level member (or something similar) and once you hit a certain number of posts (like 100), your status level changes to something like "Junior" or "Regular" or something like that, and when you reach a higher milestone (like maybe 500) hit become a "Senior" member and then maybe after 1000 posts, you become something like a "Hero" member (as in the Wild Goose Chase forum, or "Yabb God" at the Moto-Bins forum.

I just thought it would be fun to have levels that recognize those members who participate regularly and often.  I didn't come up with the "labels" you 've all wondered about, however.  That was Justin, your wacky administrator.

Maybe I opened up a can of worms here.  I kind of liked the idea of status levels for members that change the more they post.  But that's just me.  We can always ask Justin to put things back the way they were!   ::)

I personally don't have a problem with the phrases, with my work week of Friday through Monday, I rarely get to check the forum during that time, so yesterday morning I noticed the phrases as soon as I logged on, and didn't see any postings about it, I was just curious where they came from.

Steve just put metal to the flint and I took that opportunity to do something I had thought about doing for a while.  I saw something about the "training wheels" on a different forum, somewhere, and it tickled my funnybone.  [smiley=ROTFLMAO.gif] I will admit that the drooling part was 100% my idea!!   ;D  If It would have known that it would have stirred up this much commotion  [smiley=beehive.gif] I would certainly have done it a long time ago!   [smiley=evil.gif]

If y'all can come up with something that meets the following criteria I'll change each one.

1.  Must be humorous.
2.  Must be clean.
3.  Must stir up newbies enough to give them some incentive to post.
4.  Nothing nambie-pambie, wussy, touchy-feely, etc.  Something like "New spring flower" ain't gonna hack it...

Y'all have fun, now, y'hear?!!

Seeing the little emoticon in Rob's post above has inspired me to offer the first level title of "Stooge" for those who first register!  (That should motivate them to post a bunch to get rid of that name!)  Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk...  [smiley=happy.gif]

BTW, Rob, where did you find that little gem of an emoticon?  I'd like to have that one available to use!

I'll admit I've kept an eye on those 'ratings' from the start.  It did motivate me to get out of the 'newbie' status.  I discovered Rob's God status last Friday.
I'm glad I'm not on those training wheels anymore...

I do like nhmaf's suggestions.  I agree it should motivate folks to post.  It worked for me until I discoverd it would take 500 posts to reach the next level!   :P

(John, that little gem is on the list here, just click on the View All Smilies and you should see it near the top.)

How 'bout something like:

"Sunday afternoon rider"
"Frequent airhead flyer"
"Road warrior"
"Iron butt Contender"
or similar, motorcycle-oriented idioms ?

At least these might be a little more understandable also to those on our board for whom English is
not the primary, or best language ?

Oh! I like those! Good hit!

Oh man... this satellite + wifi kicks a**!

Hm. Incentive? Personally, having that little drool thing attached to my name is incentive NOT to post. I was invited to attend this little party, but if I'd stumbled upon it I'd pass on joining after seeing that part of it. Serious.

Joan, just 22 more posts and you can remove your training wheels and get rid of that drooling thingy...

"grrr...meow"

-edit-
- oh man, the dog was actually running when I first posted, now he's gone lame... guess that evil ruling cat scared it.
(I agree that cat's rule! He does my house anyway...  :P  )
